12 people have been identified so far in connection with the torching of trucks in the past few days. The number of burnt trucks has now risen to 21 after a new incident in Mpumalanga where a passenger also suffered burn wounds. Police minister Bheki Cele says he is ruling out the possibility that the torching of the trucks could be linked to the July 2021 unrest. City of Tshwane’s emergency services is appealing to residents to be cautious and place candles in safe candle holders, and not leave fire burning overnight without supervision or over electrical plugs. This after a shack fire at a Mamelodi transit camp claimed the life of a man and two children. The emergency services department was called to respond to the fire around 2am today and they found an informal dwelling of about three rooms completely burned down.

The Automobile Association of South Africa reacts to ConCourt’s AARTO ruling. This as today’s ruling is set to have major implications for motorists. Earlier on today, the Constitutional Court ruled against the Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse (Outa) in its challenge to the Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences Act (Aarto) and the Aarto Amendment Act, affirming the department of transport’s position that AARTO Act is constitutional.

What is government’s response to the ongoing torching of trucks? Two more trucks were burnt in KZN last night, bringing the number of torched trucks to 16 in just two days. It is alleged two truck drivers were attacked by a group of armed men and robbed of their belongings. The incident happened in Canefields between between Enseleni and Empangeni in KZN. Police minister, Bheki Cele says he doesn’t believe the incidents are related to the anniversary of the 2021 July unrest.

A 27 year old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of his 59 year old mother, 27 year old sister and 10 year old nephew. Police were called by the community to report a domestic violence incident and upon arrival, all three victims had been hacked to death. The man will appear in court on three counts of murder.

The European Court of Human Rights has ruled in favour of Caster Semenya in a case involving testosterone levels in female athletes. Semenya has been in a long-running dispute with governing body, World Athletics, since regulations requiring her to take hormone treatment to decrease her natural testosterone levels, were introduced in 2018. She has twice failed in legal battles to overturn the decision.
