A 24 year old woman from Durban who disappeared on Friday last week was found murdered and her body mutilated. Luyanda Cele was an intern at the Occupational Health and Safety Unit at Ethekwini Municipality. Her family says she said she was going for drinks after work on Friday and did not come back. Her body was found near Metro Lodge in South beach and her tongue and lower lip had been chopped off.

The Health and Allied workers Indaba Trade Union and 18 co-applicants including political parties and civil  society organisations have headed to the courts to force the state to prioritise schools and hospitals and exempt them from load-shedding. The coalition argued in court yesterday that while it is not fighting for an end to load-shedding, it wants public hospitals, schools, police stations and small businesses to avoid a humanitarian crisis. Through their lawyer, Tembeka Ngcukaitobi, they also argued that government is violating human rights because it knew Eskom would run out of reserve in 2007 and did nothing about it.
