Will President Ramaphosa’s plans to implement recommendations made by the Commission of Inquiry into State Capture deal with corruption in South Africa? Among other things, Ramaphosa announced there will be an independent anti-corruption agency for procurement, as well as an anti-corruption unit that will form part of a fundamental redesign of the country’s anti-corruption architecture. He also says the Public Procurement Bill will be finalised and submitted by early 2023. He also made reference to lifestyle for cabinet members, saying they are that are now being handled within the presidency, the protection of whistle-blowers, and new processes for the appointment of boards of SOEs. Will these address the issue of corruption?
