Former British MP, George Galloway shares thoughts on what the death of Queen Elizabeth II and ascension of King Charles III mean for the United Kingdom as we know that her passing has received mixed reactions.

TimesLive Investigations released the first part of their report into the operations of illegal mining. In interviews with Zama Zamas, some of the miners have shared that they are making up to R40 000 per month and buy protection to run their operations.The Police estimate that up to R3 million is in circulation underground in the North West as a result of illegal mining activity. It is alleged that tunnels and shafts in Orkney, Stilfontein, Klerksdorp and Potchefstroom are literally floating in cash.

Officially, the trip was meant to commemorate Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee, but it somehow sparked protests which were part of a wider land dispute between indigenous communities. The locals there, were calling for the royal family and British government to apologize and pay reparations for subjecting the island to colonial rule and slavery. The standoff between Putco and its employees continues. Drivers are still not back at work as a ruling on their matter by the Labour Court is expected. The bus company obtained a court interdict against the protesting workers and demanded they return to work after they took part in an unprotected strike. This morning, it said it is in the process of finalising dismissal letters.  The workers are demanding a 6% wage increase and a bonus they say was promised in 2020. What’s the latest on this?

The Department of Agriculture has lifted the 21 day ban on the movement of cattle across the country. The ban was implemented as an attempt to curb foot and mouth disease outbreaks. We’re not out of the woods yet with regards to the outbreaks, and there are still conditions people need to adhere to when moving cattle. All movements will need to be accompanied by owner declaration and animals need to be isolated for 28 days before being introduced to the main herd. Vaccinations continue in affected areas.
