Ekurhuleni firefighters are currently battling a blaze at an appliance store in a factory complex in Sebenza. According to Ekurhuleni Emergency Services - two people have been treated for smoke inhalation so far.

Today, Statistics South Africa released the Victims of Crime report, extracted from the Governance, Public Safety and Justice Survey (GPSJS). According to the report, there were an estimated 1.4 million housebreaking incidents in the 2021/2022 reporting period. The report also revealed that the second most common type of crime experienced by various households in South Africa is home robbery, affecting 155 000 households.

The Gauteng Health Department has obtained a court interdict against protesters who have been demanding that all immigrants be removed from the facility in Pretoria. There’s more drama in the ANC in the North West. Disgruntled members of the party want to take their bid to have the results of the recent elective conference declared null and void. The party held a conference three weeks ago where Nono Maloyi was elected provincial chairperson. The conference was marred by disruptions and delays as some members alleged there were bogus delegates. The conference reconvened this past weekend to elect additional PEC members. Speaking at the conference, newly elected chairperson Nono Maloyi said there is no unity in the party that can be achieved through the courts. We are now joined by political analyst, Professor Dirk Kotze.

The Comrades Marathon was a success this weekend after a two year break due to Covid-19. The top five participants are all South African. Marathon winner, Tete Dijana from the North West took first place, winning the first place in the men’s race after beating his teammate and Defending Champion, Edward Mothibi who came second. The race wasn’t without hurdles, Russian runner, Alexandra Morozova took the Comrades Marathon Association to court, fighting for her right to participate in the marathon after a decision to pull her from the race as sanctions against Russia continue. Morozova came second in the women’s race.
