Residents of Hammanskraal are calling on all government spheres to open Mandisa Shiceka Clinic, whose construction started in 2017 and was completed in 2019. Government spent over R100-million to construct the project and at the time, the clinic was provided with temporary tents and mobile rooms to offer medical treatment to the community.

The case of Jostina Sangweni, the 59 year old Sangoma who was set alight in an alleged mob justice attack in Soweto has been withdrawn.  While the accused's families expressed elation at the decision to withdraw the matter, Gogo Jostina’s family felt their hearts sink as their hopes to get closure diminished right before their eyes. Last year, police said preliminary information gathered by their investigators was that she had allegedly been “accused of witchcraft, the deceased was mentally unwell”.  

We’ll hear how the family feels about this; the reasons given by the State for withdrawing and the way forward for the family.

President Cyril Ramaphosa will soon face his first vote of no confidence as well as one in his cabinet. The ATM tabled its motion of no confidence in 2020. The party had tabled its motion on the grounds that Ramaphosa had presided over the collapse of state-owned entities and falsely promised an end to load-shedding. However the latest is that Speaker of Parliament, Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula has refused a request by the ATM for a secret ballot in the motion of no confidence against President Cyril Ramaphosa.

According to reports, doctors and nurses at Chris Hani Baragwanath are taking food to starving patients after the hospital allegedly failed to pay suppliers. There has been no bread for the past two weeks at the hospital and a number of food contracts have expired, so Requests for Quotations are used to fill the gap in a haphazard way that has led to shortages of meat, chicken, and fish despite paying higher prices.  

It is said that an even more distressing crisis is the build-up of medical waste at the hospital as Buhle Waste has suspended services because they have not been paid.

Following President Cyril Ramaphosa’s announcement that government would extend the social relief of distress grant until the end of March 2023, the South African Social Services Agency (SASSA) in KZN says it has processed more than 10-million applications for the grant. The agency is calling on all clients who have been paid through the Post Office to get bank accounts and upload their details on the system for money to be paid into their personal bank accounts to avoid the long queues. There have been complaints about the queues and the agency says it has tried to escalate the matter with the SA Post Office management.

Is Africa ready to adopt a single currency and how will it benefit the continent? It was Muammar Gaddafi’s vision to create a new united Africa with its own currency, an army to defend the continent, and a single passport. However, International Relations Minister Naledi Pandor has recently revealed that South Africa is in full support of a single African currency as this will boost intra-continental trade. Also, many other African countries believe that currency unification could be a key catalyst to transforming the continent.
