The Alexandra Dudula Movement in South Africa's Gauteng province has threatened a complete shutdown of all townships in the country as clashes with foreign nationals intensify. The movement went on a rampage yesterday forcing businesses to close down as they made their demands for land and job spaces. The group alleges undocumented foreign nationals have a complete monopoly and dominance of the township informal market, leading to many local South Africans out of work and job opportunities. To react to this is Kopanang Africa Against Xenophobia movement - this group was formed in response to ongoing attacks on immigrants and plans to lead a march on Human Rights Day, 21 March, through the streets of Hillbrow to raise awareness of attacks on immigrants.

Several businesses in Alexandra had to close their doors after community members, who identified themselves as part of the Dudula Movement, forced shops to close their doors. The Dudula Movement is a separate community organisation to Operation Dudula, which has held protest marches against foreign workers. Community members who are part of the movement were allegedly searching for migrant employees and shop owners who did not have valid paperwork. Taxi operators are not in support of the Dudula Movement - We’re now joined by the Alexandre Taxi Association, to get an understanding of how business has been affected in Alexandre following reports that roads have been blockaded by protestors.

Judgement in the multimillion rand Beitbridge Boarder Post Fence tender has been delivered. The 40 km fence between South Africa and Zimbabwe was built in April 2020 as part of measures to curb the spread of the Coronavirus by illegal immigrants and to repair and replace an existing marginal fence between the countries. Judge Modiba has found that the two contractors that were awarded the tender should not be paid the outstanding amount due to them because of the shoddy work that they did.

A Bolt driver accused of sexually assaulting female passengers appeared in the Randburg Magistrate’s court earlier today. Police have also revealed that the suspect is also linked to several other cases of sexual assault – while on the other hand Bolt South Africa has since suspended the driver from its platform.

Senior ANC member in Mpumalanga, Peter Nyoni, alleges proper procedures were not followed when the provincial task team was established. Last week, the ANC's National Working Committee disbanded the Provincial Executive Council whose term of office had lapsed.

Thuso Mbedu has scooped the Best Female Performance in a New Scripted Series at the 37th annual Independent Spirit Awards. The South African actor secured her win last night at the awards held in Santa Monica, California, for her career-defining role as Cora Randall in Barry Jenkins' The Underground Railroad.
