Home Affairs Minister Dr. Aaron Motsoaledi says 121 protesting asylum seekers and refugees who are currently accommodated in Paint City and Wingfield in Cape Town have accepted an offer to be taken back home. Briefing the media earlier today on protests by asylum seekers in Cape Town, Minister Dr. Motsoaledi says others have accepted reintegration while others are still refusing to leave the area. Last year the Department gazetted tough new regulations to control the movements and activities of refugees and asylum seekers, including a ban on political activity and immediate detention on grounds of national security. The Windhoek High Court has refused an application to compel the Namibian Home Affairs Ministry to allow the twin daughters of a gay couple to enter Namibia. The twin daughters have been left stranded in South Africa - after the Namibian Home Affairs Ministry refuse to issue travel documents for Paula and Maya Lühl-Delgado. The Ministry demands genetic proof of parenthood. The two were born through a surrogate pregnancy in Durban last month.

Sibanye Stillwater will spend close to four-billion Rands to extend the life of the Marikana operations it acquired after purchasing of Lonmin two years ago. Sibanye-Stillwater has also launched the Marikana Renewal Programme to building a new legacy of healing and hope at Marikana. The mine's CEO Neal Froneman says the events at Lonmin, Marikana mining operations, that culminated at Wonderkop in 2012 in which 44 lives were lost, will be remembered as one of the most visibly traumatic events in the country and mining industry's history. This week marks the formal launch of Sibanye-Stillwater's Marikana Renewal Process aimed at providing tangible and sustainable programmes for the benefit of local communities beyond the tragedy of Marikana's past.
