The main objective of this technology is to protect humans from sharks without harming the marine life, unlike using nets that usually entangle sharks and other marine animals. The technology is shark specific - meaning it only deters sharks - while other marine animals are able to swim through it. It is a combination of bio mimicking a forest of kelp and electrosensory stimuli. Sibanye-Stillwater today hosted the inaugural Marikana Memorial Lecture, In honour of the 44 people who lost their lives at Marikana in 2012.
