Today marks thirty-seven years since the formation of the anti-apartheid Organisation, the United Democratic Front, UDF. The UDF was launched at the Rocklands Civic Centre, in Mitchell's Plain, Cape Town, in August 1983. The UDF was a major new front in the struggle against Apartheid, to establish a true democracy in which all South Africans were represented.

We dissect the findings of the online, multilingual COVID-19 Democracy Survey that was conducted by researchers from the University of Johannesburg’s Centre for Social Change and the Human Sciences Research Council’s Developmental, Capable and Ethical State division. The survey found that support for the President’s handling of the pandemic response has diminished by 24 percentage points, falling to 61%, a similar level of popularity pre-COVID-19.
