Yesterday I spoke of a harrowing story of a minor with disability, who was sexually assaulted by Elvin Davids. Davids was found guilty of raping the girl who suffers from cerebral palsy when she was just seven. The girl - who is known under the pseudonym of Charné - has speech problems. It took seven years to get the case to court. A social worker refused to give up and with the help of the University of Pretoria; they developed a tablet that allowed the survivor to testify. Charné testified over a period of four days using the tablet. Davids will be sentenced today. Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula says the current drinking laws in South Africa are not working and has called for a review. At the weekend 740 suspects, including two police officers, were arrested for alleged drunken driving. Three Tshwane Metro police officers were killed in a head-on collision during a high-speed chase. The driver of the other vehicle, who also died, was apparently under the influence of alcohol.
