The eThekwini Municipality has unveiled a new strategy that is aimed at addressing grave space shortages in Durban. This new plan will have about 8000 new graves available. According to the municipality, land has been identified specifically for burial space; specialists are currently busy with environmental impact assessments and geo-technical assessments to ascertain if the land is suitable for graveyards.
