Normally when we hear this passage, we think about hidden sin, your sins hidden in darkness will be brought to light – and I believe they will be one way or another.
 But what if this passage was talking about the light being the good news – that it should be shining in dark places?

Interestingly enough, it says: The closer you listen, the more understanding you will be given.
 Being heard is so close to being loved that for the average person, they are almost indistinguishable.

We must make space + time when listening to our families.
* Our kids go to teachers and pastors to talk to them about things they are uncomfortable talking to their parents about.
* When we remove distractions and make space for honesty, our children know they are being listened to.

By removing distractions, eliminating confusion, and dropping assumptions we make space for our listening to reflect the love of Christ.
LISTENING AT HOME
* Getting rid of distractions – The ruthless elimination of distractions
* What role am I playing? Teacher/Mentor/Friend
* What is the other person needing? Vent/Conversation/Advice
* Listening to understand rather than listening to respond.

When Scripture references harvest, it normally is speaking to two things: Salvation & Judgement
We find in Revelation 14 where the wheat is separated from the chaff and the chaff is burned in a great fire and the wheat is gathered and used for its purpose.

Traditionally, the harvest of wheat can be understood as God judging the earth; who goes to heaven and who goes to hell.

The wheat represents someone's life & soul.
Matthew 9:35-38  We are called into the harvest fields to pick up the pieces. What if we started with one?

Roots: Trees don’t exist for roots, but trees need healthy roots to exist. Roots provide foundation, nutrition, connection.
Leaves: Produce nutrients and absorb carbon dioxide for the tree. Leaves provide nutrition, protection, photosynthesis.
Fruit: For our purposes. . .the reason the tree exists. Fruit provides purpose, reproduction, blessings for others.
We have forgotten the reason we are to exist is to produce fruit: purpose, what is fruitful of God should be fruitful of us IF we are abiding in Christ.
