Simply reading these words today brings with them a multitude of reactions.  As a pastor I know that my preaching from this passage has meant that I have divided people into various groups.

Are the laws a means to salvation, or a structure for those who are saved to follow?

God does not want His name used for our purposes. He doesn’t want us to make images of Him, because we are the images of Him He wants the world to see.

A day to spend with Him.

The Israelites left Succoth and camped at Etham on the edge of the wilderness. The Lord went ahead of them. He guided them during the day with a pillar of cloud, and He provided light at night with a pillar of fire. This allowed them to travel by day or by night. Testing reveals where you have grown, and where you need to continue to grow.  Tests are not meant to bring failure.  Temptations are meant to create failure.
