This week Pr Joe Liles is joined by Tom Helmich, Tevo Christmann and our very special and distinguished guest Taylor Smith!

Taylor is a worship leader at TNC, former CORE Team member, a dad to 4 awesome girls, avid board gamer, and an all-around great guy to be around.

Following the kick of to the series "Can We Talk?" where Pr Joe invited the congregation to think through our differences and how to resolve them in love, we sat together and asked questions like "what de we do with our emotions?" or "when is the right time to initiate a hard conversation?"

Join us as we together explore the ins and out of this important tool for pursuing unity in the church: the hard conversations.

A late and short episode this week because of a total technical halt during our regularly scheduled recording.

This week Pr Joe is joined by Tevo Christmann and his wife Kara in exploring strategies for simplifying life and making room for devotion. • Eliminate Hurry: Invite Silence and Solitude

This is Kim Kirby's last appearance on the podcast as staff. Do not be dismayed however! She is likely to continue to make appearance but, this time, uncoerced.

This week we covered the what we would do if we had an extra hour? Why do we go through life distracted only to realize at some point that life has passed us by?

Christ invites us to live life to the full. Part of that is eliminating distractions which pull us this way and that, away from His will for our life.

  • Is Faith Necessary For Baptism? (Baptism Part 2)

This week Pr Joe is joined by Tom Helmich and Tevo Chrsitmann in debating the question of whether faith is a necessary component of a valid baptism. On the one hand, the Bible does not specify the timing or mode of Baptist, nor is it clear about the exact state of mind of one being baptized.  On the other hand, baptism in Scripture is often linked with repentance, which necessitates active understanding. On the one hand, we partake in the sacraments out of obedience to Christ's command. On the other, we insist that we are saved through faith and not rituals. How do we reconcile these Scriptures and how do we dialogue between two different traditions? Join us in exploring the history and theology around this topic which has been debated since the church fathers and continues to be relevant today!

  • Bible 101: Persecuted for what?

With Kim out this week recovering from Covid, Pr Joe Liles welcomes Tom Helmich and Tevo Christmann to go over the 3rd chapter of 2 Timothy. In this chapter Paul charges Timothy to draw boundaries with certain people and tells him to expect persecution. What could Timothy have to say that would be so offensive? What could we say that could be so offensive?

Here it is: the gospel is not at work in those who are godly only in outward appearance. Like Jesus said, they have received their reward. "But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you." (Matthew 6:6)

Paul ends the chapter with advice we would all do well to heed: when in doubt as to how to stand firm, go back to Scripture because it is "God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness."

  • Bible 101 Series: Youth Sunday, Backpack Blessing and What is the Gospel?

Pastor Joe Liles, Tom "The Intern and Vicar" Helmich, Kim Kirby and Tevo Christmann get together to reminisce on a very special youth-led Sunday this past week at The Neighborhood Church. They then set out to delve into the second chapter of 2 Timothy but are stopped in their tracks at the very first verse by the phrase, "Be strong in the grace that is in Christ." The rest of the conversation reflects on the meaning of the word grace in order to understand what it means to stand strong in it.

  • Back To School: Bible 101 with Youth

Pastor Joe and Intern Tom Helmich sit down with two of our high school youth, Hillary Haggard and Caylee Liles, to talk about the Bible. There is a new series that kicked off this last week at The Neighborhood Church called "Bible 101," and the series breaks down the book of 2 Timothy chapter by chapter. Pastor Joe and Tom have an incredible conversation with these two youths about their generation reading the bible and end up in some incredible conversations about intimidation, busy lives, where to begin, and more. Pastor Joe and Tom talk a little "dad" language about how to engage their kids better in scripture.

Lastly, but certainly not least, these two youth offer up their teaching in leading a bible study for the 5th and 6th Grade group, owning that they want to share how God is changing them through reading scripture. Incredible conversation watching ministry unfold!
