Currently, he hosts The Donnie Simpson Show on D.C. - based radio station WMMJ-FM (Majic 102.3 FM), which began airing on August 17, 2015. Simpson is the first urban-format radio personality to have an annual salary over $1 million without being syndicated. He was the face and host of BET’s, Video Soul from 1983-1997, which premiered after MTV refused to play videos by most African American musicians. Simpson has received prestigious awards such as Billboard's Radio Personality of the Year and Program Director of the Year.

During the interview with Donnie Simpson, we opened up discussing his return to radio after his 5 year hiatus, and why he decided to return after his failed experience during his last year at radio. The conversation transitioned into Donnie discussing why he believes radio’s impact has decreased, what he thinks needs to happen in order for it to be resurrected, and what the next generation of personalities can do to help them become a force in their own careers.

Subsequently we talked about the impact of Video Soul, the importance of controlling your ego, and how he got it in check, despite beginning his career at 15. Donnie discussed the wisdom he has learned about how to better respect his wife, tips on a successful marriage for young adults, and how he has had to integrate his family into a life of fame.

The concepts of knowing your value, getting paid your value, and not being afraid of money as a minority were also points of conversation. Donnie told a great deal of stories ranging from negotiating his first big contract, how he went from 1 million to 4 million a year in annual salary, and the biggest problem he things people in communities of color are facing when it comes to the way they approach their jobs.

The conversation ended with Donnie discussing, where his confidence developed from, how millennials who want to get into media should mentally approach it, and what can be done in order to push the culture of the radio and entertainment industries forward.
