Question: “you throw an egg against a wall it doesn’t break it doesn’t fall,” how so? This episode begins with this breaking the ice exercise and we are joined by a new Co-Host Donte Nelson. This episode is informative and has some humor. This is actually the final episode in the 4 part series on Towards Developing A Caribbean, Diaspora, Pan Africa Perspectives. But first we break the ice and made some comments about the Supreme Court’s Ruling to end Roe and issues surrounding gun violence and the recent killings in American cities. We also provide some update on a breaking news concerning the killing of two men in Germantown Philadelphia. We obtained information that these young men were killed by a perpetrator who was paid to execute these young men. In fact the killing was done execution style and we understand that it is a revenge killing associated with a woman in North Philadelphia. The two men died but another woman who was also shot survived and is in the hospital. Further we share news about the Philly Phase program and the problem of funding as some Philly residents who do not need the service defraud the program by accessing funds. We were informed that several tenants applied for and obtained funds even though they were not owing rent while today needy families are unable to access these funds because the program has run out of money. The question is why is the program disbursing payments to the tenants and not the landlord? Why isn’t there greater scrutiny? This episode is broken up in two segments and each explores two major issues in the news and are breaking news: 1. Supreme Court Overturns Roe Vs. Wade & 2. The U.S. Senate passes Safer Communities Act. In Segment one we ask-Is the right to abortion an inalienable right of every American? Is it a right that is shared by all Americans? Is this right rooted in tradition, history and culture? The answer is what helped to shape today’s decision of the Supreme Court to overturn Roe Vs. Wade. We all have a right to life and we must also protect the right to life not just for self but the right of others to live. But when that right to life clashes with the right to choose then we must ask what is the highest ethic? Is it not the right to life. But is abortion of a fetus tantamount to killing a person? Well, it all depends on your value as a conservative or a liberal and this is the sticking point. But if truth be told, the fetus is part of the continuation of life itself. So then one may argue that the fetus’ life must be protected as in doing so one is protecting life itself and it’s continued existence.

Segment two: News Alert: Senate Passes Bipartisan Safer Community Act: And the senate passed a Bipartisan Safer Communities Act to begin tackling gun violence which expands background checks and close gun loopholes. But will this actually curb the gun violence plaguing communities like Philadelphia, Atlanta, Chicago, Uvalde Texas, Buffalo NY, etc? We are yet to find out but what we know is that guns don’t kill people, people kill people and with the rise of extremism, poverty, declining median incomes and the challenge of parenting and socialization where the young are being primarily socialized by media that devalues the individual. So then then solution must be multifaceted, and does this bill provide a multifaceted and comprehensive approach to curbing gun violence?

Further with the recent ruling of the Supreme Court that strikes down NY gun law there is now the question of what can this act do to come up with any gun policy that does not violate or is interpreted to violate a person’s right to carry a firearm. The 6-3 ruling, with the conservative justices in the majority and liberal justices in dissent, struck down New York state's limits on carrying concealed handguns outside the home. The court found that the law, enacted in 1913, violated a person's right to "keep and bear arms" under the U.S. Constitution's Second Amendment. We will take these up when we invite Ms. Outland an expert on women’s rights and a civil and rights advocate and activist. The Neoliberal Round is created by Rev. This is part 3 of a 4 part series on Caribbean, Diaspora and Pan African Thought. The episode begins with some comments on the news: 1. The Supreme Court strikes down a New York gun law making it easier for Americans to carry guns; 2. Joe Biden’s Administration cancels another 6 billion debt in student loan and 3. An 18 year old massacred 19 children and 2 teachers in Uvalde Texas. We then break for ads and then get into the series where we continue from last week. This was a lecture I was giving to students in a class I taught at the Jamaica Theological Seminary where I taught Caribbean Thought. The lecture continues looking at the question of who we are and what we are. In the lecture I briefly outline the history that Caribbean thought contends with and ask the question: is the Caribbean (and it’s Diaspora) an invention of the 21st century, and if it is, must it now be reinterpreted and transcended? And how can we do that? By recapturing our own and capitalizing on opportunities that is revolutionary and make for competition. We further make the point that the Caribbean must be seen as a collective. Yet, the Caribbean’s unity is haphazard, not strategically targeting and effective. The Caribbean is an interdependent set of people who need to now recapture and reinterpret themselves by revisiting their history and being objective about it so as to then produce that which us unique to them. What is quite true is that the Caribbean’s inability to chart their own course since decolonization and realize real political independence and economic prosperity. What voice do you have as a Caribbean thinker and what are the threats to that voice? Are Caribbean countries truly free of the external and this illusion of freedom comes within competing worldviews. What of the issue of bias? We utilize Kenneth Clark’s “Dark Ghetto, Dilemmas of social power” to help us distill some of the concepts and explore the questions and our thoughts. We also referred ti my book “Neoliberalism, Globalization, Income Inequality, Poverty And Resistance” to discuss these ideas. We delved into the issue of how identity presents an issue, by looking at how things are viewed, because of determinations based in analysis influenced by a brand that then lead to a branded perspective. We explored the problem of study and the issue of position and hierarchy within studies especially between the subject and the observer. We then begin to look at the issue of the “ghetto” but will take that up at the conclusion next episode. Juneteenth marks the end of slavery in America. However it has not always been commemorated as a major celebration like that of July 4th. But marking the end of the subjugation of a people is major. But we’re making it a bigger thing that it is. There are small gatherings here and there, nevertheless, it’s not major and collective. In fact, today I was speaking with an African American Young man who works at FedEx. I asked him if he knew that today was a federal holiday, and he replied, “no, I should have taken off then….” I then said yea, it’s Juneteenth. He responded saying “what’s that?” A lot of people don’t know the significance of today. I say to you, the reason for all this diluted celebration stems from a clash: marking the end of slavery in commemoration that is national and public would satisfy and vilify black people but clashed with those who are still harboring guilt feelings from their ancestors participation in slavery. Further, we make reference to the recent killing of 10 black people in Buffalo by an 18-year old while man who the New York Times described as being “entranced by white supremacist replacement theory ideology and this comes on the heels of Juneteenth. And I have said that we will never be able to deal with the issue of gun violence from bad logic or bad analysis. We start from a bad presumes assuming they guns kill people. But guns don’t kill people, people kill people. Guns are tools that people use to carry out their wildest or greatest intentions. We must take the right approach. People kill people and life is about people and how they relate. So the issue is therefore one of human nature. We must therefore take a multi-faceted approach. Example Jamaica has one of the most restrictive gun policy yet they have one of the highest crime rate. In fact they have a byproduct of their gun policy: gun-for-drug-trade with Haiti sometime ago where the criminals trade drugs for guns from Haiti. They have an underground market. The solution to dealing with gun crime is dealing with poverty and extremism which correlates with rising gun crime. Further, the social decay from the devaluing of people or their other from the way people are being socialized; the music and media sensationalize disrespect, theft, violence and the negative side of people. In this episode we Interviewed Newly Ordained Young Minister of Rehab Cathedral, Atlanta, Rev. Deon Jackson. He shared with us his unique and special ministry to the sick, shut-ins, drug addicts, people with mental health and HIV-AIDS in Atlanta. He explain that while he is newly ordained, he was already serving as a minister in another church and that this ordination is an addition to his service in another church. He revealed that he is also a musician and did background vocals for some famous Gospel Artist such as Mary Mary, Fred Hammond etc. Rev. Jackson is also a businessman and runs an events planning and cleaning service in Atlanta which he stated was affected by COVID-19 but is rebounding. He shared his concerns with the upsurge in murders in Atlanta and indicated that there has been loosening of gun restrictions in the city and that this may have also created the increase in gun reform. He discussed his dreams of seeing everyone united irrespective of denomination or religion so as to work to solve the issues of despair and the opioid crisis in America. They are not on any radar but we were able to uncover their scheme as they had sought to scam us and to steal our information.
