The Nerd Side wants to be abundantly clear that we stand with the Black
Lives Matter movement. Our silence hasn’t been out of complacency but from
a place of not knowing what to say and not wanting to issue a “copy paste”
statement. The events leading up to George Floyds death are unacceptable,
corrupt and a sadly recurrent series of events in America.
It has become abundantly clear that systematic racism and corruption has
infiltrated not only our policing but our government as well. While we
can’t all march with the protesters, individually we are supporting the
cause to keep the names of not only George Floyd but Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna
Taylor, Oscar Grant, Eric Garner, Freddie Gray, Trayvon Martin, Michael
Brown, Emmett Till buzzing in the ears of those who have power to make
changes by donating to bail funds, supplying masks to medical workers and
protesters, educating ourselves, as well as sharing and fact checking news
as it becomes available.
We join with other pop culture companies such as Lucas Films, The Walt
Disney Corporation, Sony, Nintendo and AEW in stating this is a time for
change. This is a time to rise up and have hard conversations with our
friends and family.
“Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time.
We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek” –
Barack Obama
