Getting asked those difficult questions in the clinic like...
What is causing my pain?

How long will it take to get me back to full health?
Are tough questions to answer, right?
These questions are the bread and butter for a physio working in sport...
As you get asked these questions almost every single day.
But what if you do not work in sport?
These tricky patient questions seem much harder to answer in the clinic...
But they do not have to be!
Discover what I have learnt from over the last decade working in pro sport...
And the lessons you can take to help you give an accurate diagnosis and prognosis to any patient...
In any clinical setting...
Even as a young and inexperienced physio!

All glitz and the glam…
And some of it is!
Some of my best memories in my life have been some days at 'work'...
The big games, the big stadiums and the parties that followed!
But what about all the other stuff, the hard stuff and the bad things about working in sport?
The stuff that nobody talks about and the stuff you would not understand unless you have actually worked in sport!
Want to know what I am talking about?

I only use one special test at the shoulder.
It is one of the most simple tests you can do at the shoulder...
But it gives me valuable information as to the best way to manage my patient.
Too many physio's, from new grad's to experienced therapists, overcomplicate their shoulder assessments.
You think the shoulder is complicated...
But that does not mean your shoulder assessment needs to be complicated too!
Quite the opposite in fact.
The more simpler you can make your shoulder patient assessment, the more clarity you will gain on how to best manage your patients problem.
Learn which test I use with each and every shoulder pain patient I see...
And why some of the other special tests, that I guarantee you are using with your own shoulder pain patients, are a complete waste of time!

You might assess gait with lower limb patients...
Like those with hip, knee or ankle pain?
But do you do it routinely with patients with neck, shoulder or upper limb problems?
If not...
You should!

On the face of it the subjective assessment looks easy.
You ask your patient a series of simple questions...
They respond...
And this gives you a fair idea about what is going on with your patient...
Then you use your objective assessment to test this out and rule in or rule out this hypothesis.
Sound about right?
If only it was that easy!
This is what you were told at University is meant to happen...
But the reality is, real-life patients simply do not act like the textbooks and lecturers said they would!
Most new grads think they do a good job of the subjective assessment, but most make some simple, yet critical errors...
That cause them to make the wrong diagnosis and focus on the wrong patient problems.
In this week's podcast episode I will give you two top tips that will help you with your subjective assessment...
So you can clearly make sense of your patients symptoms...
And have the confidence to give your patient the correct diagnosis...
Even as a young and inexperienced physio.

Why do physio's overcomplicate things?
We make what should be a simple process, to assess, treat and rehab patients, far more complex than it needs to be!
Everyone is chasing the 1% er's.
Those magic tests, techniques and rehab exercises.
You know the ones...
They pop up on your instagram account almost daily.
These techniques and exercises can be great and can help your patients...
But only if you understand how to use them and only use them when you have found a patient problem that requires that specific solution.
I talk about this issue in this week's podcast episode, whilst picking out the big takeaways from my recent in-person lower and upper limb course days.
Enjoy the show!
