The culture of watching movies in Kuala Lumpur is anything but obscure, but when was the last time you’ve sat down to watch an independent film? Cinephilia is an independent film space operated by Tan Chui Mui’s Next New Wave film company, providing a venue to encourage cinephiles of all walks to convene and watch films together; it is also a space for intrepid filmmakers to preview their upcoming projects to the public. On this episode, we speak to three of Cinephilia’s programmers - Elise, Keenen and Wei Jie, about the curation process of films at the venue, the philosophy behind the space, and their involvement in the upcoming SeaShorts Film Festival taking place in August.
