Episode 40: You Can Make a Difference

In today's episode I had a wonderful conversation with Jeshurun Newman, a dedicated canvasser, leader, and political science major at Southern Adventist University. Many are perhaps perplexed as to what they can do in the midst of such racial turmoil in this country. This episode delves into what canvassers can do to make a bigger impact on the people they canvass. At the end of the day, if we're not showing love to all people, then the books we leave won't have as much impact as we think they do.

Episode 39: An Uncomfortable Conversation with a Black Woman

In today's episode I had the opportunity to talk with Jennah Angyo, a longtime canvassing friend of mine. In today's racial climate, not every conversation is easy, but if we're ever going to heal from the wounds of the past, uncomfortable conversations must be had. Regardless of your color, we need to be aware of the problem if we want to be apart of the solution. Canvassers especially should be on the forefront of sharing a message of hope for all people.

Scriptures that help Jennah fight racism in her mind:

Psalm 139:14

14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.

Heb. 11:16

But as it is, they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared for them a city.

James 1:12

Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.

Episode 38: Wounded by Racism

This week my dear friend Daniel Raullerson shares his experience with racism on the canvassing field and how God helped him overcome. It wasn't an easy task as racism deeply wounded his self-image and ultimately led to his leaving the work all together. However, God has a strange way of bringing us back to His service. Maybe you've had a negative experience in the work of God, perhaps God is calling you back today. Answer the call, you won't regret doing so.

Scriptures that helped Daniel heal from the wounds of racism:

Hebrews 12:3

1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, 2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.

Psalm 139:14

14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.

1 Samuel 30:6

6 And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the Lord his God.

Isaiah 26:3

3 Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.

Episode 37: Do Black Lives Really Matter?

This week's topic isn't a new one for those who have been following the news surrounding the death of George Floyd. I invite some good friends of mine, Corey Johnson and ReNeita Samuel, to discuss a topic that deserves our attention at this time. Bill Krick, Literature Ministries Director for the Pacific Union, also joins me as he shares his secret to success. It's well worth the listen, so join in on this week's conversation.
