Our Horror Debuts series comes to an end with Rose Glass’s 2019 film ‘Saint Maud.’ It’s a dark ride on the psychosis train but we find ourselves a little divided on this one. Tune in to find out why!

A nurse's devotion to God curdles into something far more dangerous. "Saint Maud" follows a private palliative care nurse whose obsession with saving her dying patient's soul spirals into religious mania, closing out The Next Reel's Horror Debuts series. Rose Glass directs her feature debut, starring Morfydd Clark and Jennifer Ehle.
Pete and Andy land in genuinely different places on this one, split by how the story shifts at its midpoint, though they're fully aligned on the strength of both lead performances. It's a fitting, argument-filled way to close out the series. To close out the series of war films, Tommy joins JJ and Steve to discuss The Kill Team. Will this finally be a war film that is actually about war?

We’re talking about the fifth film in our Horror Debuts series – Agnieszka Smoczynska’s 2015 film ‘The Lure.’ It’s a bit of a genre mashup – horror, musical, fairytale – and certainly worth talking about.

What happens when a fairy tale, a horror movie, and a jukebox musical all wash ashore at once? "The Lure" follows two carnivorous mermaid sisters who become overnight nightclub sensations in an alternate 1980s Poland, continuing The Next Reel's Horror Debuts series. Agnieszka Smoczyńska directs her feature debut, starring Marta Mazurek and Michalina Olszańska.
Pete and Andy dig into how the film reworks Hans Christian Andersen's original, darker "Little Mermaid," and why they land on "dark fairy tale" over "horror" as the better description. It's one of the stranger, more purely fun entries in the series so far.
