She’s not the kind of person who jumps to paranormal explanations. Old buildings creak. Pipes make noise. People in the next room can sound closer than they are. There’s always a reason—until there isn’t.

What was supposed to be a quick overnight stop turned into something neither of them expected, especially not in a place that didn’t even feel particularly eerie at first. Just worn down. Quiet. Ordinary.

But as the night went on, the sounds didn’t behave the way they should have. They didn’t stay where they belonged. And eventually, they didn’t stay outside the room at all.
