While the War of Independence Series returns on Monday this exclusive Acast+ show looks at the story of the Nine Years War.
In 1593 Gaelic Irish lords in Ulster rose up in revolt against Queen Elizabeth I. This lead to nearly ten years of bitter fighting as opposing armies sought to dominate the island. After a string of Irish victories the revolt spread, leading to a major showdown at the Battle of Kinsale in 1601.
In this exclusive podcast I interview Dr Damian Shiels about the Nine Years War, how it unfolded and the enduring legacy this conflict had on Irish history.
Apologies for the delays in getting this show out - a mix up in schedules resulted in the interview with Damian being postponed!
