We return to our regularly scheduled programming this week to get to know one of my favorite Swedish music acts, Hoven Droven! Their 2021 album "Trad" is nominated for an Swedish Grammy which will be hosted in a few weeks. Let's have a listen to this chaotic folk-rock-jazz fusion band's latest album to see what there is to love about Hoven Droven (spoiler: there's a LOT to love!)

Today we kick off a two-part series re-evaluating late-19th century composers whose legacies were forever marred by the Nazi occupation of Norway. In this episode, we talk about Christian Sinding, who, in his own time, was considered an equal of Grieg and Svendsen despite having nothing to do with Norwegian nationalism or patriotism and most of his success coming from Germany. Do you think Sinding's legacy deserves a second look? Listen in and decide for yourself!

With marching giants, fiddling trolls, and roaring saga dramas, Johan Halvorsen brought his love of all things dramatic and theatrical to the music life of Oslo through the 300+ concerts he led over the course of his 20 year career, and his music is everything you could want from a staunch Norwegianist composer. Not to mention making opera popular in Norway, which was no small feat! Don't forget to leave a review and subscribe to the podcast!

In this special episode I sit down with Ale Carr of Dreamers' Circus - the channel's very first guest! Ale and I talk about some of the history behind traditional Nordic Folk music as we know it today and the vision behind the music of Dreamers' Circus - particularly how it plays into their upcoming album and their most recent single Brestiskvæ∂i (Brestiskvaedi), based on an old Faroese ballad!

Dreamers' Circus's new album Lost Swans will be available on April 8th, 2022!

This week, I ask you to join me in learning the life and legacy of one of music history's most beloved, but just as misunderstood composers, Edvard Grieg. This special episode is essentially my thesis condensed into a 30 minute podcast episode, and will cover Grieg's upbringing, education, personal life, his place as Scandinavia's most significant musicians, and the mark he left on Parisian culture during the Belle Epoque as one of its most popular composers. In the process, we will better understand how Grieg left a remarkable and personal influence on the generations after him, from Maurice Ravel, to Bela Bartok, to Duke Ellington, to John Cage, and many in between. It is my hope that you come away from this episode with a newfound appreciation of Edvard Grieg's music, life, and legacy.
