Kia McNeill, a graduate of Boston College, was the ninth overall draft pick in the first WPS draft. She later joined the Boston Breakers for the NWSL's inaugural season in 2013. Today, she is the head women's soccer coach at Brown University, who she has led to four Ivy League titles.
In our conversation, Kia discusses the financial challenges involved with playing in two new professional leagues. She talks about the financial realities that prompted her to move into a full-time coaching role, even when she wasn't fully ready. And she offers financial tips for both young players and veterans who may benefit from preparing for a career after soccer.
