In this episode, we feature the second of a two-part interview between Richard Jones, Chair of OSG and Dave Cottam and Eddie Crouch from the BDA. Among the many topics we touch on are the DDRB uplift, support for private practice, AGP's and fallow time as well as a return the thorny issue of procurement and in particular how the pandemic may impact on completed and future procurement exercises. In other news, we also discuss the changes with the revised standard operating procedures in England and Wales.
After a brief hiatus, the Orthodontic Practice Podcast returns for episode 6. In this episode, we clarify some of the confusion that has arisen surrounding the Compass e-triage forms in orthodontics as well as recent developments surrounding contract activity, expectations, and monitoring for NHS orthodontics for the rest of 2020/21. In part 1 of our feature interview, we welcome Dave Cottam and Eddie Crouch, Chair of GDPC and Vice-chair of the BDA Principal Executive Committee respectively. In the first part of this wide-ranging interview, we cover topics such as the impact of the pandemic on general dentistry and the subsequent knock-on effect this will have on orthodontics in terms of referrals and adjunctive treatments as well as issues surrounding emergency care, the long-term abatement issue and issues associated with staff and associate pay.
In this episode, as always we review the latest Covid-19 news affecting orthodontic practice with special focus on the "5th Letter of Preparedness" including the implications and questions arising.
We also have a special feature on anxiety, stress and mental health issues amongst orthodontists, patients and their teams-particularly relating to those challenges arising during the pandemic. To help explore these issues, we welcome Roz McMullan, current BDA President and ambassador for mental health issues for dentists.
Four weeks after returning to face to face orthodontic care, Nadia Ahmed is in conversation with John Costello and Catherine McCanny about their experiences and lessons learned from these tentative first few weeks. They also discuss the new processes and technologies that have allowed them and their teams to adapt to the challenges we all face. As ever we also review the latest Covid-19 related news for primary care orthodontics throughout the UK and discuss potential capacity and activity challenges as we embark on the road to recovery.
For practices in England, many are now two weeks into a return to face to face care but are adjusting to a new way of working. Many questions also still remain such as the reconciliation of the 2019/20 contracts, KPI's for 2020 and return to work UOA targets. As well as reviewing the latest Covid-19 related news for primary care orthodontics throughout the UK, we try to shed some light on these questions and many more in conversation with Anshu Sood, Director of Clinical Practice for the BOS.
