The Other Half

For Ethan and Mike, maybe their ancestors knew each other in their Past Lives. Maybe this podcast was inevitable. Maybe our ancestors were also discussing various forms of cave paintings before microphones were invented. Past Lives is another Oscar-nominated movie depicting two folks who separated when they were young and are reconnecting over the years. But things get sticky when 24 years later, Nora is confronted with meeting her long-lost lover in the flesh while she's happily married!

Mike and Ethan continue Oscar Month with Killers of the Flower Moon. The latest in Martin Scorsese's extensive filmography. While not directly a mob, it shares some absolute core DNA with what Scorsese is known for. The movie follows Ernest who marries an Osage Native American woman, Mollie, who just happens to be part of a family RICH with oil money. Ernest's uncle is Robert DeNeiro so you know that can only cause trouble for the town and the Osage people. Sit back and relax as we dive into this over three-hour-long epic.

Mike and Ethan kick off Oscar month with Maestro! Bradly Cooper stars and directs a movie about the life of famous conductor and composer Leonard Bernstein and his wife Felica! It's a biopic about someone related to the movie industry so you know Hollywood went crazy for it! Is it worth the nomination though?

Mike and Ethan finish up Shelly Winter's Wonderland with What's the Matter with Helen along with special guest NotTheHoneyBees! While we worked through their suggestions for Shelly Winters movies we wanted to hear a little Shelly Winters lore straight from the source. What's the Matter with Helen is a horror exploitation movie set around two moms who are trying to escape from their murderous son's past. Shelly of course plays a conservative woman while Debbie Reynolds plays someone willing to change themselves completely to have a leg up on life. Ethan and Mike even bring the cosplay out for this special episode!

Find NotTheHoneyBees on Twitch for all of your Carol Channing and Broadway music lore.

Mike and Ethan meet with Bloody Mama, also known as Ma Barker a real-life crime lord! Ethan wants out immediately, but Mike is sympathetic to Ma and her boys. Ma Barker loved her boys maybe a little too much and they all became psychopaths and wreaked havoc on whatever local communities were nearby. Will this crime family have a happy ending?

Shelly Winters plays Ma Barker. She originally played a parody of Ma Barker in Batman 1966. She was known as Ma Parker and also toted a machine gun. This may have gotten her this role.

Anyway here's the first shot of Shelly Winters as Ma Barker. It sets the scene for the rest of this movie.
