For Sylvester Stallone's birthday, we went Over The Top and watched a movie that even he hates! How could it be bad? It's the most manly movie around! It's all about arm wrestling, driving your truck, and being a pretty bad dad! Can we get a heck yeah for Sylvester Stallone only agreeing to be in this movie for the money and the fact that "no one will see it anyway"? Looks like you were wrong Mr. Stallone!
Shame Netflix doesn't put out its movies on physical media anymore, because it would be excellent to have someone rent Bird Box from Red Box. We watched Bird Box for the podcast since the new Bird Box: Barcelona was announced. We wanted to see if this movie actually did deserve a sequel. A sequel following someone who isn't Sanda Bullock. Hope she's okay. Depending on how this movie goes maybe she'll have a cameo in Spain!
Finally, we watch the latest installment of the Fast and Furious franchise, Fast X. Apparently it's the beginning of the end. We hop back into Ethan's sedan to record our immediate thoughts on this movie. That's right it's another car cast y'all! We talked about a movie with cars inside of a car! Will this movie finally convert Mike over to the family??
Happy 4th of July! What's more American than 1776? A time when a bunch of sweaty horney men got into a room and said they didn't wanna listen to King George anymore. That pesky tyrant! Now let's just add some musical numbers, imagine what these founding fathers said to one another and of course have some dream sequences with their wives. Finally, we have the American dream encapsulated into a single movie.
Renfield was the start of the whole "In the Nic of Time" month we've been doing. It's Nic's most recent film where he finally gets to play Dracula. A character he always wanted to be. The movie's premise seems novel as well. Frame Dracula's familiar, Renfield, as being in the center of an abusive relationship with a narcissist. Comedy is guaranteed to ensure right?
Guarding Tess was recommended by Pedro Pascal's character in The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. "In the Nic of Time" continues with Nic Cage guarding an ex-first first lady named Tess. It's an odd movie all about the dynamic between secret service agents and ex-politicians. Is it as good as Pedro Pascal says it is?
"In the Nic of Time" continues with The Old Way! A western movie most people have never heard about. Most likely because it was only released in a few theaters and went straight to VOD! Nic Cage plays the rough reformed bad guy and you can honestly guess the rest of the plot. But hey Nic Cage gives it his all despite the poor scripts, bland cinematography, other actors, ect.
The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent is apparently Nic Cage! So let's dedicate a whole month to him with "In the Nic of Time" where we'll be going through a majority of his newer movies. The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent stars Nic Cage playing Nic Cage. Some aspects of his life were changed, but his filmography has not. It starts off as a nice quiet movie between Pedro Pascal and Nic Cage bonding over movies, but then the stakes are raised when there's a kidnapping involved! Don't get made while listening to this!
The Worst Person in the World follows Julie, who is having a quarterish life crisis. She hasn't found what she wants out of her life! Maybe it will take some people in her life to help her understand what it is she truly wants. Then she won't exactly be the worst person in the world anymore. Renate Reinsve, who plays our titular character, won some awards for best actress, and the movie itself was nominated for best screenplay at the Oscars.
My Date With The President's Daughter is the movie that Disney wants to forget. Maybe because nowadays the president isn't just some goofy guy that people love. The world is too real for a film like this now. So take a back seat and enjoy some '90s nostalgia about what it's like being a President's daughter and how your dad's biggest flaw is that he's just too busy! It's Disney Channel Original Movie time! (DCOM for short)

Join Ethan Hawkes and Mike Trujillo as they watch two halves of the same movie and try to piece it all together. Sometimes we learn about filmmaking, but most of the time we learn about ourselves.…
