Marisa and Sam discuss Lizzie McGuire Episode 224: Bye, Bye Hillridge Junior High, which first aired February 7, 2003. Speaking of vignettes (vignes?), this episode is full of them. Season 1, Season 2, doesn't matter! They're all here! Even Ronnie is here, because that experience has clearly traumatized all parties involved. Plus, the MVP race starts to come down to the wire.
Marisa and Sam discuss Lizzie McGuire Episode 223: Clue-less, which first aired January 31, 2003. Sam learns all about imprinting, and Marisa recounts the last time that she attended a murder mystery party. Plus, thoughts on the will they/won't they of Lizzie and Gordo. (Miranda, please come back!) Another fun vingette from The Outfit Repeaters.
Marisa and Sam discuss Lizzie McGuire Episode 222: Dear Lizzie, which first aired January 24, 2003. Sam and Marisa are back on Miranda watch and really missing her in this episode. Without Miranda, Gordo is going off the rails. Sam and Marisa also discuss whether or not perfume is ever an appropriate gift. Plus, they talk through the most important question of the episode: JJ Farris' Right Here and Now or BBMak's Out of Reach?
Marisa and Sam discuss Lizzie McGuire Episode 221: Lizzie's 11, which first aired January 1, 2003. Sam informs Marisa that this episode is, in fact, an Ocean's 11 parody, so turns out he can actually contribute something to this podcast. Ethan Craft makes a return after several episodes away, and Sam and Marisa wonder why Ethan will inexplicably just disappear for several episodes and then come back as if nothing is wrong. Plus, Miranda-watch has begun. Will she make an appearance in this episode after her absence in the previous one?
Marisa and Sam discuss Lizzie McGuire Episode 220: Xtreme Xmas, which first aired December 6, 2002. Steven Tyler makes a surprise celebrity cameo appearance as Steven Tyler Claus, but Marisa and Sam feel that he was largely underutilized. This was also the first episode Sam has watched without Miranda, and shocker, it all started to fall apart. Plus, they debate whether his rendition of Santa Claus is Comin' to Town holds water against the Zooey Deschanel Elf version.
Marisa and Sam discuss Lizzie McGuire Episode 219: She Said, He Said, She Said, which first aired November 22, 2002. Together, they realize that Lizzie may be an even more unreliable narrator than they initially suspected and talk about the food fights (or just regular fights) that they may have witnessed in grade school. Plus, Sam randomly guesses which celebrity will make a cameo in the next episode.
Marisa and Sam discuss Lizzie McGuire Episode 218: Party Over Here, which first aired September 20, 2002. In this episode, the two of them struggle to get on the same page on several issues, including but not limited to what generation they belong in, whether fruit and vegetables belong in cake, and whether Haylie Duff or Zachary Quinto is the more notable celebrity cameo. Plus, we finally learn Lizzie's middle name!
Marisa and Sam discuss Lizzie McGuire Episode 217: Movin' On Up, which first aired September 13, 2002. In one of their favorite episodes so far, Marisa and Sam actually struggle to choose an MVP because multiple characters did positive things. A listener email reintroduces Marisa to an iconic song from her childhood, and Marisa and Sam also weigh on on the #FreeBritney movement, a movement Lizzie would 100% endorse. Plus, hear why Marisa gives Lizzie a full "Elizabeth" in this episode.
Marisa and Sam discuss Lizzie McGuire Episode 216: Inner Beauty, which first aired August 30, 2002. Together, they struggle to find much upside for this episode, as depictions of body dysmorphia and eating disorders go largely unresolved, and Miranda seems like the least likely candidate to suffer from these things, but they do it because they're committed to seeing this rewatch through. However, if you or anyone you know struggles with similar issues, you can find more information at www.nationaleatingdisorders.org.
Note: Kars 4 Kids is in no way affiliated with this podcast. The jingle has just buried its way into our heads unfortunately.
Marisa and Sam are joined once again by Ivan Vukovic to discuss Lizzie McGuire Episode 215: Lizzie in the Middle, which first aired August 23, 2002. In what is perhaps the most meta episode of Lizzie McGuire to date, Frankie Muniz appears as himself, comments that Lizzie and Matt look nothing alike, and conducts the most amicable breakup we have ever seen. Sam thinks this episode was Mark Wahlberg's real inspiration for Entourage, and Marisa shares her thoughts on the beginning of her first MCU marathon. Plus, Ivan provides some quick thoughts on cryptocurrency and settles the non-debate over whether we prefer Sam McGuire or Hal Wilkerson.
