Hello everyone! Welcome back to the Owner's Journal, Episode 27 with Isaac Hammer. In today's episode, we dive into everything from the loneliness of leadership and the importance of vulnerability as a man, to Isiac's time on tour with Tech N9ne.

Professionally, Isiac has packed tons of life into his young career. His decorated sales career started in the music promotion industry and landed him a tour with Tech N9ne and Strange Music, and he later ventured into selling shoes, promotional projects, and Chamber of Commerce memberships. Tapping into Isiac's knowledge after he's talked to thousands of people throughout his sales career brought on a ton of insights about interpersonal relationships and being in-service to people regardless of your profession. We also got to hear some fun stories about tour and the big transitions in his career along the way.

Isiac's depth of experience has led him to his newest venture, Extra Innings Leadership Academy, where he and his team are setting out to prepare highschool seniors who are striving to play sports at the next level with valuable life skills that help them in the recruiting process and in their transitions into college athletics. They are providing training on everything from how to send an email to college coaches to time management and even how to eat a balanced diet with a hotplate and a mini-fridge in college. We wish this would have been around when we were in high school, and we're thrilled about the impact that Isiac and his team will have on Montana's high school athletes across the state.

This unique episode is packed with tons of valuable moments from conversations on mental health and leadership to how we can help our young adults transition into being on their own, and we're thrilled for y'all to hear it.

Hello everyone! Welcome back to the Owner's Journal, Episode 26 with Brooklynn Sittner. In today's episode, we talk with Brooklynn about her CrossFit journey and her recent competition at the 2024 Teen CrossFit Games in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Brooklynn's CrossFit career started around the age of 8, and her nearly 10 years of training was just punctuated by her trip to compete in the Teen CrossFit Games this summer.

During the episode, Brooklynn talks about being grateful towards her 8 year old self for committing to her dream to compete in the CrossFit games, the unique dynamic of having her father as her head coach, and the mindset that it takes to compete at a high level.

With a decorated youth career that has included Brooklynn winning national championships, meeting & training with some of the biggest athlete in her sport, and getting to travel the U.S. to compete, her career so far has been an inspiration for athletes in Montana and beyond.

Outside of her career in CrossFit, we got to chat with Brooklynn about how she balances her time pursuing her goals inside of the sport with the other things she enjoys spending time doing, and also got to talk to about how she approaches her social media and personal brand while she makes a name for herself in her sport.

This conversation is a great listen for anyone who is playing the long game and pursuing massive goals in life. Brooklynn's successful journey is just getting started, and we can't wait to cheer her on as she sets out to compete in the CrossFit games over the course of her career.

Hello everyone! Welcome back to the Owner's Journal Episode 25 with Nick Steen Gullings. In today's episode, Nick walked us through his journey from making pizzas at Pizza Hut to being a James Beard-Nominated chef and owner of two restaurants in downtown Billings, Montana.

If you get a chance to go to one of Nick's restaurants in Billings, Montana, it would come as no surprise that he's had a long career in the restaurant industry and has fallen in love with his craft. From baking pizzas in his teens, to serving breakfast to Tiger Woods and Bill Gates in Big Sky MT during college, to eventually owning and operating two restaurants, Nick's colorful career in the restaurant world has had wide range of pit stops on his way to being a successful chef and restauranteur. 

In today's episode we got to hear about Nick's experience as a volunteer firefighter, and how his time working at the station influenced his career as a chef and a leader. In a workplace culture where chefs are known (and sometimes expected) to be authoritative "my way or the highway" leaders, he talked about how he rejected that mentality after his time at the station and being confronted with how "real stress" in the world can be a lot bigger than what happens during a dinner rush in the kitchen.

In addition to talking about his journey as a chef and his perspective-shifting time in the fire department, we also got to talk to Nick about the business side of his career and what it took to go from being a head chef at Walker's Grill to eventually buying the business and adding an additional restaurant to the portfolio at Bin 119. The process of buying and operating two restaurants left Nick with a ton of actionable insights for ourselves and our listeners about creating unforgettable customer experiences, leading teams, and choosing business partners wisely.

Hello everyone! Welcome back to The Owner's Journal, Episode 24 with Kyhler Thompson. Kyhler is the owner of Top Notch Meats, a wild game processing operation in Billings, MT, and coaches legion baseball during the business' offseason.

In today's episode we got to talk about Kyhler's transition from working as a teacher to taking the leap into business ownership when he took over a prominent wild game processing business that operated in the Billings hunting community for decades. When Kyhler jumped head-first into the business world by taking over the business that his wife's family ran for many years, he had the challenges of rebranding the company, building trust with a new & existing clientele, and becoming the leader and boss of family members who still worked at the shop.

While many of our guests have been years into their careers on the show so far, we're excited to bring Kyhler’s perspective to the show as a new business owner going into his second year of operations. His perspective and experiences after year 1 are a great listen for anyone who is in the early stages of building something awesome, or for tenured business owners who can benefit from reflecting on the early days of their ventures.

Aside from talking about Kyhler’s experience in the business, we got a behind the scenes look into his career as a legion coach and his last season coaching a team to the Legion World Series. Hello everyone! Welcome to back to the Owner's Journal, Episode 23 with Jason Leininger. In this episode we talked about Jason's growth-oriented approach to life and its presence from his time as a teenage door-to-door newspaper salesman to his time today as a father, husband, and successful real estate broker.

We covered a lot of ground in this episode, and spent much of it talking about the nuances of life and how to navigate it with a growth-oriented mindset. Our topics spanned all the way from the mental health benefits of '3rd pursuits' like jiu jitsu (and the mental health affects when an injury prevents a year of training), to the relatable story of a less than show-ready Rolex that Jason was gifted by his father to commemorate his career in real estate.

When we did get a chance to talk shop, we talked about Jason's career path and how it took a dramatic turn from his original plan to go into dentistry when he made the decision to forego dentistry school and pick up a real estate career to spend more time with his young family. Since then, Jason has become a real estate broker and built a successful relationship and people-first business as a breaker. We took a ton of pit stops along the way, and talked about Jason choosing to quit sports in high school to get a job to buy a car, getting encouraged by his boss to leave dental hygiene and pursue real estate, and his time coaching for his kids' sports.

Jason's outlook on life is an inspiration for us to spend more time working on being present for the "little" moments, creating time for what matters to us, and finding ways to become the best versions of ourselves.

This episode is full of a ton of great "life stuff," and we're extremely grateful for the value that Jason brought for all of our community. Hope you enjoy this one as much as we did.
