Care Messer knew her newly born infant daughter Finnley was in trouble, and the doctors agreed. After 6 miscarriages though, Care was determined for her beautiful baby to know the feeling of love, so she simply held her - for days, and days. Eventually, it became clear that Finn was going nowhere and that Care had a new mission in life - to empower parents to make healthy choices regarding their birth experiences, and to reframe birth from a painful, traumatic event to one filled with beauty, grace and love. Care runs the Birth Education Center of San Diego, but speaks powerfully for all around the world exploring alternatives to the mainstream, prescribed birth experience. Does birthing have to be painful? Must it be traumatic? Must it take place in a hospital? Are moms and dads to be seen as "patients", or simply, parents? We discuss all of these topics and more on this episode of the Ownstream podcast. For those who are expecting a child, or who are considering having a child, this episode could radically change your view of the birth process. Plus, hear Care describe her very emotional and moving journey to motherhood, and the remarkable grace that has awakened in her along her path. Enjoy!
