I had planned to just cover the Taos Hum this week but it would have been a seriously short episode so I found a few more sounds to cover. 

The Taos Hum is not the only strange sound that residents hear. Across the globe several areas have a hum that a small portion of the population can hear. It is a low droning noise that has even lead some people to end their lives. 

Then we look at the ocean and forest to learn about what strange noises are said to originate from those space.

We are headed one mile above sea level this week as we head to Colorado to take a look at one of the most talked about airports in the world. 

Said to be home to miles of underground tunnels, bunkers for the elite, even alien breeding programs, the Denver Airport does not shy away from the conspiracy theories. Instead they like to embrace the weird, even going so far as to become Supernatural Sister Airports with the one in Roswell NM. 

From a demonic looking horse statue, to disturbing artwork through out, the Denver Airport is one place you have to visit at least once.

We are heading to the land down under to take a look at one of the most controversial claims of alien abduction. 

While working on their new winery, Amy and Keith Rylance and their business partner Petra had just settled down for the evening when a bright light lit up the night. 

Petra claims to have watched Amy fly out of the window in that beam of light, only for her to reappear over 500 miles away. And then, they all disappear.

There are few cults that are as well known as the one we are talking about today. For those of us old enough to remember, hearing the word Waco brings up memories of seeing that fire rage on the evening news. 

But things for the Branch Davidians started back in the 1930's. One man took a group of his followers to Waco Texas where he set up his own twisted version of the Seventh Day Adventist.

Some 50 years later, one Vernon Howell, AKA David Koresh would make his way to the group and what followed was one of the worse disasters, some might say, that the US government has ever caused.

Ian takes us to the mother land this week to tell us the legend of a spirit that takes a form most of us would not think twice about. 

As summer sweeps across the US fireflies, or lightening bugs, are out light up the night. For many of us we have memories of going out to catch them and put them in jars to keep in our rooms over night. 

This is probably not something they do in Togo and Benin, and Ghana, where they have a legend of a vampiric entity. This thing takes the form of a firefly to find it's way into a house, then it takes human form to possess someone. 

Like many places legends like these are made to explain the unexplainable. Vampiric fireflies are no different.

One reason we have such a problem with racism today is that we did not punish the confederacy hard enough for their treason. 

Another would be the 1,600 scientist, and technicians and their families that were brought over to the US from Nazi Germany. You read that right, the US government brought over 1600 of Germany's best and brightest, their spouses and their children, to the US. 

Most of them did not have a hand in anything important, but those who did, well their names are still being spoken across the world for their contributions to science.

Ian takes us down to Savannah this week to look at one of the most haunted buildings in the city. 

Built as a hotel for travelers this building would be used for various things, including of course a hospital where dozens of people died, mainly children. 

Even before she was opened as a brew pub reports of strange experiences in the building had been made. While it might be closed now, one can still walk by and try to spot an apparition in the window.

We have a short local urban legend for you folks today, the tale of Helen's Bridge in Asheville NC. 

Built in the early 1900's to get to the Zealandia Mansion, this bridge is said to be the sight where a grieving mother took her own life. And now she haunts the bridge looking for her baby. 

If you were to go up to the bridge it is said your car could stall, or you might even see Helen out looking for her baby.

This week Ian is taking another look at a somewhat local cryptid. Local to us in that it seems to live in our state, albeit, on the other side. And I could not be happier about that!

We deal with our fair share of mosquitos in WNC, but in the swamp land of ENC there lives one that is said to be the size of a man, or at least a very large bird. Gallinipper is it's name and if it decides your blood should be it's next meal, that is lights out!
