What happens when someone who has spent years in gangs and incarceration decides to completely change the direction of his life?
In this powerful episode of The Parent Whisperer Podcast, Richard Ramos sits down with Isaac Ortiz, a devoted husband, father of five, mentoring specialist, and psychology student whose personal journey is a powerful example of transformation, responsibility, and hope.
Isaac spent approximately 10 years in and out of incarceration and experienced firsthand the consequences of gang involvement and choices that took him away from the life he ultimately wanted.
Today, he uses those experiences to help others who are working to rebuild their lives.
As a Mentoring Specialist with Garden Pathways, Isaac supports adults who are working toward positive change and a better future. Garden Pathways' mentoring work focuses on helping individuals develop skills, make positive choices, and move toward greater stability and self-sufficiency. (Garden Pathways)
But Isaac's story isn't only about incarceration.
It's about fatherhood.
It's about becoming the kind of parent his children can be proud of.
It's about understanding that our past doesn't have to determine our future.
And it's about using the experiences that once held us back to help someone else move forward.
In This Episode, We Discuss:
• Isaac's experience with incarceration and gang involvement
• The turning points that changed the direction of his life
• How becoming a father changed his perspective
• Breaking destructive cycles and creating a different future
• The importance of mentorship and authentic relationships
• Why people need someone who believes in their potential
• Using lived experience to help others navigate change
• Education, personal growth, and rebuilding your identity
• How parenting can become part of the transformation process
• Why it's never too late to make a different choice
Isaac's story is a reminder that transformation doesn't happen because someone simply tells you to change.
Sometimes, it happens because someone believes in you long enough for you to start believing in yourself.
Today, Isaac is continuing his education in psychology and using his lived experience, compassion, and mentoring work to help others believe that change, healing, and a better future are possible.
This is a conversation about second chances, fatherhood, responsibility, mentorship, and what it really means to turn your life around.

Lena shares practical wisdom for anyone carrying emotional wounds, explaining why healing is a process that requires intentional choices, healthy habits, and giving yourself permission to grow. In This Episode You'll Learn:

Small, consistent steps often create the greatest long term transformation. She encourages listeners to identify one area causing unnecessary stress and begin making manageable changes that restore peace and emotional resilience.

but a deeper understanding of who they are?

Today's children are growing up in a world filled with comparison, social media, anxiety, bullying, and constant pressure to fit in. Many know how to scroll, but few know how to understand their emotions or communicate what they're feeling.
Jacqueline shares how her own childhood experiences inspired a movement that helps children discover their worth through guided reflection, meaningful conversations, and practical activities that families can do together.
This conversation is filled with practical ideas that every parent can begin using today.

What if the greatest gift you could give your child is not more opportunities…
but the confidence to create their own?
In this episode of The Parent Whisperer Podcast, I sit down with author and parenting expert Margot Machol Bisnow to explore the parenting habits that help children become confident, resilient, creative, and willing to pursue their dreams.
Margot spent years interviewing highly successful entrepreneurs and discovered that, while their careers looked very different, many of them shared remarkably similar childhood experiences. Their parents didn't push them toward success. Instead, they nurtured curiosity, encouraged independence, allowed failure, and gave them the confidence to solve problems on their own.
Whether your child becomes an entrepreneur, artist, teacher, engineer, or physician, these principles apply to every family.
Because raising an entrepreneurial child is really about raising a child who has the courage to think independently, embrace challenges, and build a meaningful life.
In this episode, we talk about:
• Why Confidence Begins Long Before Adulthood
• The Parenting Habits Shared By Successful Entrepreneurs
• Why Curiosity Is More Valuable Than Perfection
• How Failure Builds Resilience
• Encouraging Children To Take Healthy Risks
• Why Independence Is A Gift Parents Can Give
• Helping Children Discover Their Passions
• Raising Kids Who Create Opportunities Instead Of Waiting For Them
One of the biggest takeaways from this conversation is that parents do not raise successful entrepreneurs by controlling every outcome.
They raise confident, capable adults by creating an environment where children feel safe to explore, fail, learn, and grow.

Stepparenting is one of the hardest roles in a family… but many people enter it without a roadmap.
Blended families are built through relationships, trust, communication, and intentional effort.
In this episode of The Parent Whisperer Podcast, Richard Ramos sits down with co-parenting and stepparenting expert Maria Natapov to discuss the challenges stepfamilies face and how parents can create healthier, stronger family dynamics.
Maria shares her personal journey as a child of divorce, a domestic abuse survivor, and now a stepparent and adoptive mother. Through her experiences, she understands the emotional challenges that come with blended families and what it takes to break unhealthy patterns.
Together, Richard and Maria discuss why stepparenting requires a different approach than traditional parenting, how parents can navigate conflict, and how to create a family environment where children feel secure, supported, and loved.
In this episode, we talk about:
• Why Stepparenting Requires A Different Mindset
• The Emotional Challenges Of Blended Families
• How Co-Parenting Conflicts Impact Children
• Why Parents Need To Regulate Their Own Reactions
• How To Communicate Without Creating More Conflict
• The Importance Of Trust And Consistency In Step Families
• How Stepparents Can Build Connection Without Forcing A Role
• Creating A Stronger Family Culture After Divorce Or Separation
One of the biggest lessons from this conversation is that successful stepparenting is not about replacing someone.
It is about building trust, showing up consistently, and creating relationships that allow children to feel safe and supported.
Blended families can thrive.
But it requires intentional leadership, communication, and a commitment to doing the work.

Being a stepdad is one of the hardest and most rewarding roles a man can take on.
But what happens when there is a gap between a stepfather and his children?
A gap created by misunderstanding.
A gap created by hurt.
A gap created by trying to figure out where you fit.
In this episode, Richard shares his personal journey as a stepfather and the lessons he learned through decades of blending families.
He talks honestly about mistakes he made, moments where he needed to grow, and how reconciliation helped strengthen relationships with his children.
This episode is not about being a perfect stepdad.
It is about becoming a better one.
We talk about:
• Why Step-Parenting Requires Patience And Self-Awareness
• How Trust Is Built In Blended Families
• Why Reconciliation Matters More Than Being Right
• The Difference Between Discipline And Punishment
• How Stepdads Can Build Stronger Relationships With Their Stepchildren
• Understanding Your Role In A Blended Family

• Responsibility As A Provider
• Becoming A Reconciler And Peacemaker
Closing the stepdad gap does not happen overnight.
It happens through humility, consistency, patience, and a commitment to the relationship.
Because the goal is not just to create a family.
The goal is to build connection.

Parents, what if raising children is not just about preparing them for success…
but preparing them to become responsible members of society?
In this episode, I talk about one of the most important responsibilities parents have: raising children who understand community, responsibility, character, and belonging.
Our children are growing up in a world where connection is changing. Many families are more disconnected from extended family, community traditions, and the values that help children understand where they belong.
But children need more than information.
They need roots.
They need identity.
They need parents who teach them what it means to contribute, serve, respect others, and build something bigger than themselves.
In this episode, I share lessons from my book Parents On A Mission and discuss why family is the foundation of every strong community. I explain why the question is not just “what kind of child are we raising?” but:
“What kind of citizen are we sending into the world?”
We talk about:
• Why Family Is The Foundation Of Community
• How Parents Shape Future Citizens
• Why Belonging Matters In A Child’s Development
• The Importance Of Teaching Family And Community History
• How Children Learn Values Through What They See At Home
• Why Respect, Service, And Character Matter
• How Parents Build A Safe Environment For Their Children
• Why Community Starts Inside The Home
• How To Raise Children Who Contribute Instead Of Just Consume
One of the biggest lessons in this conversation is that communities are not built by institutions alone.
They are built by families.
Because the children we raise today become the adults, neighbors, leaders, and citizens of tomorrow.
