Hello welcome back to The Parenting Burrito, formally known as Parent Talk! This is a podcast that wraps up the parenting lifestyle all in one place. We talk about the real struggles, the real fails and the real happiness that we all experience as a parent. If there is one thing I want you to take from this podcast, it is knowing that you are not alone in your feelings, actions and emotions. We are not perfect and there is no need to pretend to be!
I am your host Alexandria and I am so glad you have joined me today!
Let’s start off with an affirmation
Say affirmation out loud and breathe in and out and feel this!
“I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be.” ―Groucho Marx
Today’s topic is what makes a long day better.
As a single parent long days are inevitable. We are busy from the second we wake up to the second we fall asleep. Most of our day consists of doing things for others, and even sometimes when we do get the so desired free time we still do for others. At this point we have to forcibly make time for us, right?
I don’t know about anyone else, but I have just accepted that long days come with the role as a single parent, or parent in general. There also never EVER seems to be enough time in the day to do all the things you need to do. Which leaves you feeling defeated, disappointed and even depressed or worthless. You then caffeinate yourself because you have no energy, motivation or inspiration to do or finish everything within your day. Although, the only thing that makes it all worth it every single day no matter what, is when your kids want to snuggle and tell you about their day.
Parents with older kids probably miss this, or get this in a different way. But for all the parents of younger kids we have to soak in all the snuggles and take advantage of the love and affection we are getting. From a single parent perspective, we don’t have that partner to lay next to every night, to snuggle with after a hard day. Although, we have the next best thing which is our kids! You actually easily forget what a good snuggle session can do for your spirit, your motivation and your energy level.
Nothing beats after a long day laying in bed with your kids and letting them speak their truths of the day. Listening to how they see the world, how they take on the world and how they feel. It gives you such a great insight about your kids. Sometimes in these sessions we laugh, sometimes we cry and sometimes we just lay quietly and take in the moment. Moments like these warm my heart and melt my stressful day away.
Does anyone else feel this way when they snuggle their kids? I would love to hear some heartwarming stories about your little snuggles sessions. It's the place where most kids let down their guard and be free for the moment.
