The Path to the Academy

This week, Dr. Jenkins welcomes his friend of 30 years, Mark J. Kelly, retired soldier and current teacher. Together they discuss the path of their life in the academy, and Mark's formation--against the current as it were--into a classical educator. They also set the stage for their next conversation on C. S. Lewis, John Senior, Paul Kingsnorth, and the current plight of dialogue.

Dr. Jenkins welcomes back Dr. Joshua Moritz as they continue their discussion about the path of Dr. Moritz's intellectual and spiritual pilgrimage. One thing we know, our intrepid hosts don't like Gnosticism.

This week Cyril Jenkins sits down with Dr. Joshua Moritz, philosopher, philosopher of science, archaeologist, lover of theology, apologetics, and above all, a classical learner (and a great conversationalist to boot). Beyond these things, Dr. Moritz is also a faculty member at Chyrsostom Academy, and Dr. Jenkins is wildly happy to introduce him to our audience.

On this episode Dr. Jenkins welcomes back Fr. Andrew Stephen Damick, as the two of them, sans chaperon, discuss the Anglo-Saxon world, especially in relation to the poem Beowulf. There are of course inevitable asides to Tolkien, the writing of history, the "death of the author," and the life of the mind.

Prof. Jenkins welcomes John Thompson, librarian at Waynesburg University (holding back chaos). John's life found him present at the start of All Saints Orthodox Church in Chicago, and with that, present at the creation of Touchstone Magazine. He helped oversee the Faith and Learning program at Waynesburg, and while there taught Greek to the most ambitious students. All of this hardly exhausts John's stops along the way.

This episodes Dr. "Doc" Jenkins visits with his old friend Jamey William Bennett, classical educator turned licensed insurance adjuster, podcaster, catechist, rapper, and brand new dad. He and Jamey cover old ground in each of their lives, reflecting on education, Calvinist culture and education, beauty, what learning really entails, and the grave perils of the life of Faith.

This episode Dr. Jenkins submits himself to the inquisition, as Chrysostom Academy Headmaster John Heitzenrater takes the helm as the guest host. The conversation ranges across why study history, why study it as an Orthodox Christian, who and what have formed Cyril's thinking, and what might be the relationship of the St. Basil Society with Chrysostom Academy.
