Tom Snow that’s a name you may or may not have heard of. Chances are you have heard his music. Tom Snow is a songwriter. Everyone from Barbra Streisand, The Tubes, and Ray Charles recorded his work. He recorded 3 solo albums on his own, but perhaps Tom Snow is best known for such titles as “Let’s Hear It For the Boy” sung by Deniece Williams for the film soundtrack to Footloose or Linda Ronstadt’s “Don’t Know Much” which she sung as a duet with Aaron Neville…or Barry Manilow’s recording of “Somewhere Down the Road” just to name a few of the well known songs Tom Snow has composed. He’s won or been nominated for such awards as an Oscar, Emmy and Tony. He has won 15 BMI Millionaires awards for songs reaching a million or more plays on the radio.

John D. Loudermilk was a legendary songwriter who lived from 1934 and passed away in 2016. I was interested in interviewing him and was told by one of the foremost experts on Loudermilk that he does not give interviews and that's all there is to it. A letter sent to his home was replied to by telephone and he agreed to be interviewed. Although he did make records under his own name, Loudermilk's songs were most known by the versions other bands and recording artists made of them. One of his most successful songs, "Indian Reservation" was a number one hit for Paul Revere and the Raiders. His song "Ebony Eyes" was recorded by the Everly Brothers and "A Rose and a Baby Ruth" and "Abilene" were two of the most well known songs recorded by George Hamilton IV. Then there was David Lee Roth, stepping away from Van Halen to record the Loudermilk song "Tobacco Road." The songs of John D. Loudermilk were recorded by countless prominent artists including Johnny Cash, Marianne Faithful, Mose Allison, Stonewall Jackson, Chet Atkins, Jimmy Buffett, Jerry Lee Lewis, Norah Jones, Connie Francis, Roy Orbison and countless others.

Although John D. Loudermilk has passed away, it's my hope that this rare, in-depth interview is of interest to you. Furthermore, I hope it creates a greater interest in his very different and clever songs. It's here for the listening on this episode of The Paul Leslie Hour.

Robert Davi is a singer-extraordinaire. This interview was taped back in 2014 and broadcast on the radio and was published in La Revista, a bilingual international magazine. The interview focused in part on his 2011 debut studio album "Davi Sings Sinatra: On the Road to Romance" produced by the legendary Phil Ramone. Of course many know him for the versatile actor that he is, but in my heart and mind I think of him as a singer first. However, Robert Davi is a man of many interests. His columns on political subjects and current events have appeared in online and print news publications. He's not afraid to share his point of view. He's also shared his commentary on the AM and FM airwaves as a radio talk show host. Everone thinks of a different movie when they recall one of the more than 130 films he has starred in ranging from The Goonies, Die Hard, Predator 2, Licence to Kill and Showgirls just to name a few. He was also featured as a main character in the music video of Bob Dylan's take on "The Night We Called It a Day" a song made famous by Frank Sinatra.

Most recently, Robert Davi has been in the news because of the release of the documentary film Davi's Way. Directed by Tom Donahue, the film chronicles Davi's quest to honor and recreate Frank Sinatra's October 13, 1974 "Main Event" concert at Madison Square Garden. This interview with Robert Davi is being presented on the podcast as a good foundation for listeners of who the man himself is. Hugh Prestwood is a songwriter. He's also a recording artist in his own right. Prestwood writes primarily in the country genre, although his first hit song was "Hard Times for Lover." Mac McAnally is a singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and inductee in the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. A respected recording artist, he's released more than a dozen albums. He's won the CMA Musician of the Year award 9 times now, tying him with the late Chet Atkins for most wins in that category. Mac McAnally is also a record producer and has produced for such acts as the band Sawyer Brown and Jimmy Buffett. His good friend Jimmy Buffett is one of his most frequent songwriting collaborators and McAnally has been a member in Jimmy Buffett's Coral Reefer Band for the last 20 years. The songs of Mac McAnally have been recorded by a great variety of artists from Alabama, Jimmy Buffett, Charley Pride, Steve Wariner, Reba McEntire, Ricky Van Shelton, Randy Travis and Kenny Chesney.

This interview was recorded backstage at the Roswell Cultural Arts Center in Roswell, Georgia back in 2009. The taped interview was broadcast in a 3-part radio special entitled "Mac McAnally: A Retrospective."
