  • Exposing The Mental Health System

It's time for change, too many people are suffering in silence. Pledge your support here: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/a-documentary-to-expose-the-mental-health-crisis

Quite simply, this documentary HAS to be made. Because even though the statistics that surround mental health and suicide are shocking, still little action is being made to prevent people losing their lives to this 'silent' killer.

    - Suicide is the biggest killer of young people.

    - Suicide is the biggest killer of men under the age of 45.

    - Suicide is the biggest killer of Mum's with an under one year old.

    - 1 in 8 children now have a diagnosed mental disorder.

But still... the mental health system lacks funding, appropriate treatments and needed support. Simply put, the mental health system is BROKEN.

People are having to wait over 6 months+ for therapy, people are being told they're "not mentally ill enough" for treatments, people are still being judged for seeking help and many others still suffer alone and in silence.

We're making a documentary that will tell the stories of real people affected by mental illness and people let down by the mental health system. A documentary that exposes the broken health system, what's going wrong, how we can better it and more importantly force well needed change.

This isn't going to be a documentary that 'tip toes' around the issue. This is going to be a documentary that exposes the issue.

Alongside the brave people sharing their stories within this documentary, this is your chance to join them.

To do your bit to help break the silence, and to be a part of change.

    How?

By pledging here, to raise enough money to get this documentary into production: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/a-documentary-to-expose-the-mental-health-crisis

  • Darren Branch Opens Up About His Depression - Behind The 'Reel' #1

Super excited to announce this new series, kicking it off with an interview with Instagram influencer Darren Branch.

Behind The 'Reel' is all about interviewing 'influencers', and getting to know more about them behind what they share on social media. I think we're all victims of only showing our best side on social media, so I really want to show the real person behind what we typically portray on social media.

We kick things off with Darren, a menswear influencer who has an inspiring story as to why he started sharing photos on social media. We talk about:

    - The main reason 'why' Darren started sharing photos on Instagram

    - His personal battles with depression

    - How social media actually helps his mental health

    - The work he puts in daily to grow his Instagram

    - How he wishes to inspire his children through his Instagram

    - Why exercise is important for his mental health

It was such an honour to chat with Darren, and hopefully this interview helps you.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on this interview, so get in touch!

Coming up I have an interview with YouTube heavyweights Aaron Marino and Antonio Centeno, alongside the inspiring Eric Bandholdz from Beardbrand. Excited to show you these!

  • A 3 Letter Word That's Been Game Changing For Me...

So for this quick episode I wanted to share a simple change I've made over the last year which has lead to BIG results.

Sure, it's not sexy. It's not quick. But it's really effective.

    3 letters.

    That's all it is.

3 letters that open up new relationships, opportunities, less fear and 3 letters that push you to a better version of yourself.

Those 3 letters are 'YES' ;)

    Enjoy!

P.S. Lots of focus on this Podcast this year. Stay tuned.

  • My Dad Could Still Be Alive...

So for this episode I grabbed the microphone and shared what's on my mind right now. A thought that's been pulling me down...

"My Dad could still be alive knowing what I know now".

It's led to a mixture of emotions, I feel proud because of how far I've come and everything I've discovered but I also feel guilty and sad that my Dad could still be alive. With it approaching 10 years since his suicide as well it makes it difficult for me to picture how my life would be if he was still alive.

It leads into the point of this episode, that education around mental health is so important.

We need to become better educated, to understand it better, in case a crisis hits. I didn't know how to support my Dad when he went through his depression because I simply wasn't educated on it. I wasn't taught how to deal with it.

I'll continue doing what I do until we have more research, education and understanding.

Hopefully my honesty in this episode helps, and I just wanted to say a huge thank you for listening!

  • 2019. The Year of Prevention

    HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I've spent the last two weeks really disconnected. I've rarely updated this Podcast, social media, and also disconnected from my phone altogether recently on a family trip to Tenerife. Honestly, that disconnect has been so refreshing and something I needed.

In this episode, I look back on 2018 and explain why 2019 needs to be the year for prevention. It needs to be the year of change to help with this current mental health crisis.

There was a huge amount of talk and and awareness in 2018, something I focused on, but with more people now seeking help and feeling less alone we need to start putting things in place to help those in need.

I explain more in this quick episode.

Thanks to you for listening, supporting, and being a part of changing the voice around mental health.

  • The Mental Health Unit Failed My Dad...

Here's an interview I gave back in November for Maytree. I'm hoping this interview offers some value to you in two ways, through my honesty in the interview but also as an introduction into the amazing work that the Maytree do.

Since giving this interview I reflected on how my Dad would've probably benefited from something like the Maytree, rather than being sectioned and spending time in a mental health unit on the NHS. If I'm honest, and this isn't true for every unit, the environment within these units really aren't beneficial for people struggling with mental health.

In this interview we talk a little bit about the work they do at the Maytree, I discuss how my Dad being treated differently could have created a different outcome and also what he meant to me.

    Hopefully it helps!

  • "Grief With The Volume Turned Up" - Dealing With Suicide

Someone once explained suicide grief as "grief with the volume turned up". It really struck a cord with me, as I really did struggle to accept my Dad's suicide.

Grief is hard, knowing that someone you love has gone can lead to a rollercoaster of emotions. As a British society too, we also struggle to talk about grief and people who've died. But suicide? It's almost like we have to be silent about the loss, but also silent about how it happened.

I've been open and honest in the past about how I lied about my Dad's suicide, how I was angry, how I felt ashamed, and how I suffered in silence personally trying to hide the emotions that came with his death.

In a recent talk for The Grace Dear Trust, I shared how it happened and how I struggled to deal with it. The Grace Dear Trust was set up after they lost their daughter/sister to suicide, so I wanted to talk about suicide bereavement as most people in the audience knew Grace too.

Thanks to you for listening, supporting, and being a part of changing the voice around mental health.

  • Sofa Sessions #1 (Losing A Parent With Anneli Roberts)

So this was slightly different! I drove to Cardiff to visit fellow mental health campaigner Anneli Roberts of Pigletish.com a few weeks back and we recorded the conversation we had.

We sat down on the sofa, hit record on the camera and spoke as openly and honestly as we could about mental health. From losing our parents at a similar age, to how we dealt with the grief, to coping mechanisms and what helps us day to day... this episode really is an honest one.

It's funny, even though we were talking about some serious issues, things we both bottled up for years, it still seemed so normal to just chat with a cup of coffee and be able to relate to one another. Hopefully this goes to show that it is ok to talk, it is ok to share how you feel and that even though you feel alone... you're not.

Anneli is doing some amazing work with her own Podcast (link below) and also blogs as well. Her story is powerful and I'm really grateful for her coming on to the Podcast.

  • How To NATURALLY Deal With Mental Health Issues...

So this is one from the archives on my old Podcast, but I think this could offer huge value to you.

I spoke to Dr Phil Carson about natural ways to deal with mental health issues. Why? Because Dr Phil was someone who was a trained doctor who practiced medicine who then transitioned into more natural remedies and saw some amazing results.

This episode needs an open ear and an open mind, we're very conditioned to believe the medication is the only way to getting better sometimes. But in this episode we talk about natural ways to help depression, anxiety alongside other physical illnesses.

Dr Phil Carson is still doing some amazing work, so go and check out his work too!
