After the First Chris debate, there was always going to be push back on the results - and shockingly to no one who has been paying attention, National’s own fact checks are wrong and need to be corrected, along with some other post debate claims.

From statements about 9 news taxes, using forecasts as though they’re facts through to claims of being “the most efficient farmers in the world”, there were at least 32 false or misleading statements made during the Chris Debate on 1News. And the one from Hipkins was corrected immediately.

Tuesday is the first of the Leader’s Debates between white guys named Chris for 2026, on one side, a Prime Minister named Chris whose party and campaign has been built around AI slop, lying, being called out for lying, denying they’re lying, being asked not to lie by the groups whose data they’re misrepresenting and fake podcasts and weird stories about crossing streets, and trying to be relatable.  On the Other is a Chris who has announced a raft of cost of living approaches, business growth policies, health policies and a fully costed budget with no leadership challenges behind him and a newly ignited fire in his belly.  So how will media spin this as a win for Luxon?  I’m sure they’ll find a way but in the mean time, here’s some election tools to help you out!

Almost as good as a nice MLT, mutton, lettuce and tomato, was the weekends moves from the Opposition that called National’s bluff, showed both labour and the Greens have got solid ideas on topics they can work together on while also having their own positions and the party that keeps lying looks desperate as they call what they got “dishonest” - as IPSOS demands National stop misrepresenting their data.
