I can't decide whether the S&P 500 Index reaching new heights, or the Treasury yield curve news is more exciting. Although, the prospect of fuel prices going down more is also not terrible news. I'm sure by the time everyone has finished listing to this portion of the podcast, our listenership will decrease by at least half. Thanks a lot, guys. This week starts out similarly to others, with an update on the movements made by the S&P 500 Index and CRSP US Mid Cap Value Index. Jeff gives us a brief note on irrational exuberance followed by a mention that other parts of the economy may be "sane." Maybe he's comparing it to himself..... Then comes the good stuff, interest rates. The majority of this week's economic writings across the interwebs were focused on the Federal Reserve Board's rate change. Jake explains overnight loans made by the Federal Reserve and why lowering rates made rates go up.... oh brother. Jeff gets to tell us about a publishing by Mario Draghi. For those of you that may not know who that is, don't worry, I didn't either.

If you were looking at the S&P 500 Index, CRSP US Mid Cap Value Index, U.S. Treasuries, and West Texas Intermediate crude oil markets this week, you'd think things were going swimmingly. Jake updates us on the movement those markets had for the week. Then goes to try and keep your interest about interest......rates (it took me way too long to come up with that.) Some big things happened this week that could indicate where interest rates are headed. Jake explains what we might expect and a bit about how bond markets work when countries own large amounts of U.S. bonds. Lastly, at the beginning of the episode Jake asks for some help from our listeners. Typically, the weekly update is posted Saturdays at 10am CST because that's when Jeff and Jake would talk about these same topics on the weekly radio program they put on. Jake asks if you can send him an email with whether that schedule is important to you or not and if you have any other recommendations.

Then, as far as I can tell, he starts trying to say the ABCs but in a really weird way. He starts out BEA, then GDP followed by PCE and still he started several other times after that, poor guy. We may need to send him back to grade school. Jake explains how much the President, whoever that may be, has on the actual economy. In the last bit of the episode, Jake gives us some advice, though he can't even say the alphabet correctly so it's totally on you if you decide to follow it.
