Kelly Gunther has had an incredible life journey so far and continues to rise! 

She is an American Speed Skater who participated in the 2014 Winter Olympics. She began roller skating at age six, briefly tried figure skating, then took up inline speed skating. As an inline skater, she won multiple World Championship gold medals on the United States relay team. In 2009, she transitioned to ice speed skating.

In March of 2010, she fell during a race and suffered a double-compound fracture that nearly severed her foot from her leg. After intensive rehab, Kelly was able to return to skating and set two personal best times in November 2011. 

In this episode, not only does Kelly talk about their journey to the Olympics, but she speaks about life with a learning disability and now it pushed her towards her talents rather than hold her back.

She speaks of persistence, not letting anything stop you from reaching your goals, and also how in each chapter of your life you can EVOLVE into new aspirations.

Now, Kelly resides in Ohio with the intent to move to the south! She is a public speaker who empowers students of all ages to go after life full force and whatever has held them back, to use it as their comeback story!

Aria is a recording artist and two-time terminal cancer survivor. Graduating college with a BFA in music she released her debut album in 2017 and completed a solo four month US tour! After relearning to walk and talk due to a debilitating car wreck she now works in the cancer and mental health communities as a speaker and trauma coach while continuing to heal and empower through her music.

“My Age Is Not My Cage”

 

At 61 Esther Brzezinski made the career pivot from small home based entrepreneur to voiceover artist and actor. After an acquaintance pointed out the quality and tone of her speaking voice, she decided to take some voiceover classes.               

From there, an interest that had been buried since young adulthood re-emerged and began to take acting classes, while still having her business. In the meantime, her adult son who is on the Autism Spectrum was beginning his career as a singer/songwriter. Due to his Neurodiversity, she became involved in managing his career, social media and marketing. As she was beginning to get roles in independent and student films….Covid happened. Acting came to a halt for many months, yet voiceover work remained. However, the market suddenly became saturated with unemployed actors who were switching to voiceover work. Zoom classes didn’t really appeal to her but there was one of interest…The Business of Acting, given by the Montreal School of Performing Arts lead by Josa Maul. Here she found a community of likeminded people.  Eventually, she got cast by a fellow classmate in a Web Series. Then in late December of 2020, Esther experienced a horrific complication of an ulcer she didn’t know she had and was hospitalized for 8 days. Finally home and recovered, she made the decision to “just go for it” and decided to get professional headshots and began searching for an agent and found representation soon after. That same classmate that cast her months earlier convinced her to create her own podcast...and Esther’s Breeze was born just 3 months shy of her turning 64.

Katelyn is a community psychologist and certified teacher with experience in truancy advocacy, chemical dependence counseling, and family-based interventions. Her qualitative research explored the relationship between embodied practice (dance) and intersectionality. She is passionate about empowering community members whom have been systemically disenfranchised; specifically survivors of domestic abuse and sexual assault. She was formerly lecturing at Penn State Harrisburg and continues offering lectures through various academic conferences. She explores the healing qualities of embodied practice as a means to strengthen the mind-body connection and promote self-acceptance, self-care, and wellness within the scope of womanhood, sisterhood, and sexuality. Her research was inspired by her experience as a dancer and dance instructor. Her activism and self growth continue to be influenced by her professional experiences and personal life as a mother of three. Her adored children include a precocious six year old and twin toddlers—the former navigating a type 1 diabetes diagnosis and the later being born mere months prior to the pandemic! Ryan-Ashley is a maker, a marketer, and a writer. And of her early childhood, she remembers these things — fear, loneliness, and hunger. She remembers watching her father terrorize her mother; she remembers spending lots of time alone and afraid, making things to pass the time; and she remembers watching her mother argue with fast food clerks in order to get meals for free. The first time she hurt herself, she was six years old. And for the next 15 years she would go through a series of haunting experiences, struggle with depression and eating disorders, and fall asleep at night wishing she was somebody else, somewhere else, with just a little chance to become something more. Even while she thought, "If I could just get a steady job making $10/hr. somewhere, that would be pretty great," she hoped there was something greater ahead for her. She hoped she might do something meaningful. She hoped she might mean something. So she lived and worked as if she was fighting for her life. Thanks to the blind, stubborn hope that gave her the  determination and tenacity to overcome her beginnings, she's now 34 and a homeowner, the CEO/founder of a marketing firm, and a mentor in the Big Brother Big Sister program.
