Corner Booth at Rex's

Get ready for The Final Reckoning as we discuss the latest installment of the Mission Impossible franchise. Were you confused that they changed the title away from Dead Reckoning Part 2? We were too! As with every Mission Impossible movie, there are plenty of quibbles about the validity of the plot and major steps to resolve it. We talk about the history of the MI franchise throughout but we couldn’t help but take the opportunity to do a full ranking of the movies at the end of the episode.

Spoilers start at the 19:00 minute mark.

Inside Out

This week we are going to one of the scariest places imaginable…the brain of a preteen girl. That’s right, we’re talking about Inside Out this week. We are literally here for all the emotions – Joy, Sadness, Anger, Disgust, Fear, we’re hitting all of them – especially when we start doing quotes. So grab some Tripledent Gum (it will make you smile), call up your Canadian Boyfriend and jump aboard the Train of Thought as we celebrate the 10 year anniversary of one of Pixar’s best. And speaking of Pixar be sure to listen through the end for a special bonus after the episode.

Toy Story

We’re making ourselves feel old this episode as we discuss the 30th anniversary of the Pixar film that started it all – Toy Story. That’s right we’re falling with style, we’ve got a snake in our boot, and we’re going to infinity and beyond this week. So find yourself a moving buddy, pack extra batteries and try to avoid that kid who lives next door, because we are pretty sure he has never been to medical school.

Star Wars – Episode III – Revenge of the Sith

This week we are celebrating the 20th Anniversaryof Revenge of the Sith. As usual that means Calvin is joining us as we talk through the conclusion of the prequel trilogy. We know it’s not a perfect movie, and that love has blinded us, but we don’t care who knows anymore, we’re tiredof hiding it. So come along as we watch Anakin turn to the dark side, see Obi Wan take the high ground, and listen as liberty dies to thunderous applause. After all, this is where the fun begins.

Corner Booth at Rex's

Our newest Corner Booth at Rex’s is on the newest MCU entry, Thunderbolts! Get ready for a ton of comparisons to Guardians of the Galaxy because they are warranted. Troy meanders his way through a painful example of how the Thunderbolts are like the Celtics as if he were Bill Simmons. We also spend some time on the incredible score by Son Lux, even though we forgot to mention them by name.

Despicable Me

Here’s the plan. We watch the movie. We take notes on themovie. We talk about the movie. We sit on the toilet…wait what? Who did this – excuse us for just one second….ok, we’re back and we’ve got all the fart guns, the fluffy unicorns, and plenty of boogie robots for our trip to super silly fun land. We might set a new record for longest tangent within the first five minutes and we definitely vent plenty of parental angst over some of the things we endured watching with our kids.

Late Nights at Blockbuster

Our newest Late Nights at Blockbuster celebrates the 10th anniversary of Avengers: Age of Ultron. We discuss why this is seen as the least of all the Avengers movies but still good in its own way. There are plenty of Stark quips to run through due to the continued presence of Joss Whedon as writer/director. We also discuss how well the it has held up by all of the movies and TV shows that build on this movie.

Gladiator

Our names are Troy and Byers, creators of the Phileo Podcast, teammates on a 2007 rec basketball team, attempting to be loyal followers of the true King, Jesus Christ, each of us father to a teen and a preteen, husband to an embarrassed wife (if they read this), and we will talk about Gladiator, in this life and possibly the next – because it’s a really great movie, and we love it, and we definitely spent some time patting ourselves on the back for waiting this long to do it, but we just keep saying, not yet….not yet.

Late Nights at Blockbuster

What will you do with a new Late Nights at Blockbuster? Will you fight? We are celebrating the 30th anniversary of the movie that all pastors love to quote, Braveheart! Much likeMel Gibson our Scottish accents will be going in and out when you least expect it. We also can’t stop giggling at the ridiculous names in this move so be prepared for a lot of that. We spent a little time on the historical accuracy of the movie but didn’t beat the dead horse like others have over the years. Byers takes another opportunity to trash The Banshees of Inisherin.
