Former MiLB pitcher and current varsity pitching coach at De La Salle High School in Concord, CA, Clayton Tanner sits down at The Pitcher's Shop. Jonny Tucker is a coach within the Pittsburgh Pirates organization, with his official title as the Minor League Hitting Coordinator. Coach Tucker oversees all levels in the minor leagues to make sure everyone is on the same page in the organization. He brings a unique perspective to The Pitcher's Shop because he explains things through the eyes of a hitter, not a pitcher. Jonny Tucker was a standout athlete at De La Salle High School in Concord, CA, and went on to play in the SEC at the University of Florida. He was taken in the 20th round of the 2004 draft and went on to play for 12 years in the Orioles and Nationals organizations. He brings a wealth of experience, both as a player and a coach. He joined the Pirates organization in 2019, starting at the Rookie ball level. His work ethic and understanding of the game helped elevate him from level to level and landing him in the important role of Minor League Hitting Coordinator.

The Pitcher's Shop sits down with Erik Wagle, President of the Kinetic Performance Institute (KPI) in Morgan Hill, CA. Started in 2020, KPI has become a well known state-of-the-art facility in California and continues to expand it's reach. Hundreds of student athletes train at KPI on a consistent basis, making it one of the top choices for an athlete's development.

As you listen to Erik, you'll hear that things are done the right way at KPI with care and commitment. Aside from Erik, there are a number of high quality coaches on staff that assist with pushing athletes to help reach his or her peak performance. In his time in baseball, Erik Wagle has sent over 180 players to play in college, coached numerous college All Americans, and has mentored or advanced nearly 20 players into professional baseball. His coaching background includes stops at Live Oak High School, San Jose City College, and Cal State Monterey Bay. While Erik was there, each of those schools had enormous success.

Erik's coaching success and mindset has now helped build a great community and culture at KPI. Hearing Erik discuss what he believes makes pitchers successful on the mound, the importance of arm care and strength training, and some tips on pitching mechanics. Division 1 Head Coach Greg Moore of St. Mary's College in California joins The Pitcher's Shop to discuss his program and the types of players, especially pitchers, they are looking for. Coach Moore brings over 20 years of coaching at the Division 1 college level. The SMC Gaels compete in the West Coast Conference.

 Prior to becoming a Head Coach at SMC, Moore was the head coach for 6 seasons at Cal State Northridge. Coach Moore was named by Baseball America as one of the top 10 Assistant Coaches in College Baseball during his time as the Pitching Coach and Associate Head Coach at the University of San Francisco. 

From 2014-16, Moore served as a member of the coaching staff for USA Baseball's U-18 National Team. Serving as pitching coach to the team, he has helped Team USA to gold medal victories in international competition in 2015 and 2016. Moore began his tenure with Team USA in 2014 for the Tournament of the Stars and National Team Trials before becoming the team's pitching coach in 2015. He followed this up by serving as the 2019 USA National Team Pitching Coach.

We dive into not only the types of pitchers Coach Moore is looking for, but also the details of what he believes makes a pitcher successful and recruitable.
