The Playboy Murderer: Murder in American High Life
News of the Times Episode 384 | 1916
1916 New York and seemingly fabulously wealthy newly married couple are enduring a string of tragedies. Within months of the happy nuptials, the bride’s mother has unexpectedly died whilst visiting her daughter and new son-in-law. Understanding how distraught the family are, the husband takes it upon himself to deal with the body and funeral arrangements including sorting out the cremation
A few months later, her grieving father also comes to visit. He too becomes ill unexpectedly and passes. Once agian, the son-in-law takes it upon himself to take charge of the finer issues associated with the death and puts into place his impending cremation.
Sadly, the bride herself becomes quite unwell, possibly from the back to back tragedies she has experienced in her family. It is as she is recovering that her brother receives a strange telegram urging him to insist upon an autopsy of the father before cremation is to take place.
And thus unfolds a twisted tale of intrigue, poisons, illicit relations, plots and schemes. This story became a sensation around the world as every day in court brought a new revelation.
We take a look at the Playboy Murderer of American High Life in today’s episode.
Hosted by Robin Coles.
