This week we chose Child's Play, not the remake, but the original. Child's Play is a movie about a boy named Andy and his good guy
doll named Chucky and all of their whimsical adventures and misadventures. Little does Andy know that his good guy doll has been
possessed by the soul of the Lakeshore Strangler, Charles Lee Ray. Chucky says to Andy that he'll be his friend 'til the end,
but Andy doesn't realize how soon that end could be. Hidey-Ho!
This week we went Big, a movie from practically everybody's childhood. Zack felt obligated to show Dutch and Tomás what they were missing out on as they had not watched it. The movie is about a boy that is tired of being treated like a child and makes a wish to be big. Through this wish, he learns that being older is not always what it is cracked up to be. And it's Tom Hanks, who doesn't love Tom Hanks?
West Side Story is a modern adaptation of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet set in 1950's New York. One key difference from the original Shakespeare play is that race relations are used as the point of contention instead of family relations, also it's a musical. Our special guest Rob picked this movie because it is his favorite musical and we thought it would be worthwhile for us to watch on the podcast.
We picked this movie because it features both Zack's favorite wrestler Rowdy Roddy Piper, and one of his top five all time favorite directors John Carpenter. They Live is John Carpenter's commentary regarding consumerism with what is portrayed as people's sheep-like following of government propaganda and corporate advertising designed to get people to consume more and think less. Do you need any other reason other than that it's a Rowdy Roddy Piper movie? This movie was not considered to be a grand success at the box office, but there is a considerable cult following among John Carpenter fans, movie enthusiasts, and even Roddy Piper fans.
This week we watched Little Miss Sunshine, a movie about a family that goes on a road trip on their way to a children's beauty pageant. But what was supposed to be a normal road trip turns into a grueling trek where the family has to cope with its dysfunction. We had a great time watching this movie and hope you can enjoy it with us.
