We're not going to shame you for using straws or drinking your coffee out of #Styrofoam cups. You can shame yourself for that. (KIDDING) But there ARE some small, common sense things we can each do to help the environment. (Obviously, buying a #Tesla is NOT one of them.) Christina and John talk about the different smallish ways we can help keep us in the planet's good graces.

The idea of "Hand-me-downs" is a solid, legitimate concept. You're giving something that can still be used - something that might still have life in it. Financially, a person might not be able to afford a variety of clothes. Maybe you don't want to contribute to damaging the environment when you hear that it takes over 700 gallons of water to grow the materials for one t-shirt. These are all great reasons... but there are other kinds of hand-me-downs. Emotional and behavioral hand-me-downs. But unlike a kid who's got no choice when his mom throws the neighbor's kid's old sweater him... you DO have a choice to put on those emotional and behavioral hand-me-downs. (We had to take a dinner break between recordings, and that probably recharged us for the second half!)This week, Christina and John read a short, but amazing book called THE FOUR AGREEMENTS by don Miguel Ruiz. In it, we are instructed that one can live a peaceful, happy life by following these four agreements: 1) Be impeccable with your word. 2) Take nothing personally. 3) Assume nothing. 4) Always do your best.

WHOOO. Our longest Podgecast to date. We've been talking a bunch about Captain Marvel. It was a really good movie, but it's beyond a simple movie. It's more about what the movie represents. What's more surprising is the backlash from people of the male persuasion. It's absolutely horrifying! So horrifying we had to call in an expert - Dr. Sandra Eckard - a local college professor who teaches, studies, writes about (you get the picture) education and popular culture. Christina and John talk about International Women's Day and how it relates to the film. We have a love hate relationship with Philadelphia. (Or PHILLY as some yokels call it...) It's a town that has a lot of good things going on, and some pretty shady things going on. One of the good things is the INTERNATIONAL FLOWER SHOW. Christina has been dying to get here for years. This year was the year! Listen as Christina and John ramble on about their adventure in the City of Brotherly Love and Identity Theft.

Oy. This Oscar ceremony started out awesome, but that ending was rough. The best part of it was having our pal Rashan call in and talk about his Oscar predictions with us, so that was a bonus. We all had good reasons for our picks, but ultimately, the Academy showed us how and why we are wrong. Sigh. Thank you, Rashan for hanging out with us!

Growing up, teachers didn't care about cultural sensitivity. They were strict but with that strictness they were at times insensitive, inappropriate and sometimes downright racist. When trying to break cycles, we are constantly questioning whether we are being culturally sensitive... and with that, do OUR OWN cultural limitations ever infringe on someone else (whether it be religion, sex, race, gender, etc.)? It's a tricky topic, but we're trying to be the best versions of ourselves as we can!
