  • Flash Briefing: Abi Pollokoff Reads Inger Christensen

The new organization is: a "Flash Briefing" as a two minute or less reading every day of a poem or pop culture text. This will be followed a 20 minute or less episodes 1x week or more expanding on one of those poets/poems/pop culture texts. Today's Flash Briefing is Abi Pollokoff reading an excerpt from Inger Christensen's "Alphabet"! This one goes for 3.5 minutes, BUT, you've never complained that there is too much poetry in your life, right? Plus, what a privilege to have a provocative and moving reader such as Abi. For more on Abi's own work as an inimitable poet, see abipollokoff.com. Tomorrow, there will be a full Vlog AND podcast episode where she is our guest interlocutor and reader. We will discuss breath, reading poems, music, manuscripts, and Inger Christensen's. Tune in for more then! It will be published by the eve of 7/15. • Episode 6: Karla Kelsey + How to ID and Write a Sonnet

In this episode of Chelsea Grimmer and The Poetry Vlog, I offer key updates to the future of the channel and podcast, then explain how to identify the sonnet form and read sonnet 1.1. from Karla Kelsey’s Iteration Next. This is a “dry” lesson plan, but, if it is one of the most useful for aspiring lyricists who want to learn how to make their music and lyrics, from hip hop to soul to country to pop, rhythmically tighter and without cheesy rhyme. • Janelle Monae and Tessa Thompson in "Pynk" the Music Video

Here, I discuss feminism, trans-inclusive feminism, transwomen inclusion, queerness, and power in Janelle Monáe and Tessa Thompson in the music video “Pynk.” For the first five minutes, I offer a 2.5 minute update on the forthcoming Podcast and future guest readers, then offer a quick contextualizing discussion on the intersections of poetry, pop culture, spoken word, and print poetry to emphasize how these videos and podcasts might be used both in and outside classrooms and social justice conversations. Then, I spend ten minutes basically saying in ten different ways why “Pynk” can be a moment for a feminism that is not just trans-inclusive, but a feminism that in fact centers women of color and especially trans-women of color. I am currently taking questions, guest readers/conversationalists, and content suggestions. Hit me up on twitter.com/thepoetryvlog or via thepoetryvlog.com. This was transcribed from YouTube.
