  • TV Break: March 2023 - Mando Returns; The Last of Us Divides; Poker Face Soothes; & Daisy Jones and The Six Disappoints

Welcome to TV Break, where Pop Break’s Podcasts Editor Alex Marcus is joined by editor-in-chief Bill Bodkin, and TV Columnist Josh Sarnecky to talk about the happenings in television.

Here’s the format of the show:

The Best Thing I Saw on TV Last Month – Alex, Bill, and Josh talk about a show/episode/event they liked from the last month including HBO’s The Last of Us, Crunchyroll’s Demonslayer, ABC’s Abbott Elementary, AppleTV+’s Shrinking, Peacock’s Poker Face, and Disney Plus’s The Mandalorian.

News Break – Alex, Bill, and Josh dive deep on this year’s Q4 Earnings Calls, taking their audience on a tour of the latest news from Netflix, Warner Bros. Discovery, Comcast, Paramount Global, Diamond Sports Group (a subsidiary of Sinclair Broadcasting), Disney, and the entire Cable/Satellite industry.

Streaming Wars – Alex, Bill, and Josh pick a streamer they think “won the month” based on new shows airing/upcoming shows announced etc. We had a house divided this month, as Bill went with Netflix after they successfully held their first live event; Josh went with HBOMAX after The Last of Us ran the table on the culture discourse this month (along with the James Gunn DCU news and the upcoming Succession series finale); and Alex went with Peacock on the strength of their leading ladies of Natasha Lyonne in the series Poker Face, Cate Blanchett in film TÁR, and M3GAN in the film M3GAN.

New Series Spotlight – Alex, Bill, and Josh review Daisy Jones and The Six, Prime Video’s faux documentary miniseries created by Scott Neustadter & Michael H Weber, adapted from a book by Taylor Jenkins’s Reid. The series, which tracks the rise and fall of a 70s era rock band, stars Riley Keough, Sam Claflin, Suki Waterhouse, Josh Whitehouse, Camilla Morrone, among others and is executive produced by Reese Witherspoon.

  • Batman By The Numbers: The Flash Trailer Reaction + Every Batman Trailer Ranked

There’s arguably no superhero in existence that has been reimagined, redefined, or reinterpreted more than Batman.  No matter how many times he’s been rebooted, audiences are always willing to come back to Gotham City’s greatest defender.  With so much Bat content out there, there’s plenty to dissect, analyze, and of course, rank!  This podcast is dedicated to a surgical evaluation of Batman’s history, with a focus on ranking several topics in the world of Batman, among other classic Bat themes and characters.

Join host Daniel Cohen, Pop Break’s former Film Editor and Resident Bat-Maven, as he brings on several guests every month to share his passion for the one and only Dark Knight.  From Adam West to Robert Pattinson, no bat stone will be left unturned.  Bottom-line: If you’re a Batman fan, this is required listening.

COMING SOON TO A PODCAST NEAR YOU…RIGHT NOW!  If you love and appreciate the art of movie trailers, this is the rankings episode you’ve been waiting for.  We’re ranking every single live action BATMAN trailer throughout history.  Nope.  That’s not a typo.  We’re ranking Batman trailers.Daniel is reunited with Podcast Editor Alex Marcus, and first-time guest to the podcast DJ Chapman (of Roses & Rejections), as the three evaluate 23 (yes, 23) Batman trailers.  Teasers.  Full Trailers.  Final Trailers.  It doesn’t matter, we have opinions on everything.  I dare you to find another podcast that talks in length about a less than 30 second Batman & Robin Teaser Trailer.  I dare you. Will Daniel get upset about the BvS trailers ranking too low?  Will we favor teaser trailers over full trailers?  Will someone on the panel risk getting kicked off the podcast for ranking the Batman 1966 theatrical trailer too low?  Well, you’ll have to listen right here to find out.Oh, and as a BONUS, the crew kick off the pod discussing their thoughts on the latest FLASH trailer that premiered during the Super Bowl.  It’s Trailer overload!
