In the growing battery-electric sports car world, it was only a matter of time for Porsche to jump into the game with its Taycan. Porsche launched the Taycan with its base all-wheel-drive model and a pair of Turbo-badged performance models. Well, Porsche is adding a new entry point into the Taycan portfolio that ditches all-wheel drive and drops the price. This rear-drive Taycan does drop the power, as you’d expect with a reduction in motors, and only throws 320 hp to the wheels with the standard battery. However, the dip in performance is offset by shedding 210 pounds over the standard all-wheel-drive Taycan with the elimination of all of the front powertrain.
On this episode of Quick Spin, Autoweek’s Mark Vaughn puts the latest Porsche Taycan through its paces and brings you along for the ride. Vaughn hops behind the wheel and reviews the rear-wheel-drive Taycan around the California canyons. Vaughn also personally walks you around the Taycan and sheds insight into Porsche’s EV. Between those segments, Vaughn elaborates on his pre-recorded comments with host Wesley Wren and sheds insight into where the Taycan sits in the market.
