"I'm the girl with 26 years of education that never raised her hand in class. Having all eyes on me just wasn't comfortable." - Dr. Ann Shippy
Yes COVID-19 is here and we need to talk about it, but what are we going to do moving forward?
In this episode, we dive into this and more with Dr. Ann Shippy, a Functional Medicine physician, scientist, engineer, Ted X speaker, and one of my VIP YOU, Amplified!® clients. She uses cutting-edge science to find and treat the root causes of illnesses, not just the symptoms. When we first started working together, she was already the author of several books and a go-to health expert for print publications from Forbes and Good HouseKeeping to Mind Body Green, but she hadn't been on camera before.
Dr. Shippy was being offered opportunity after opportunity but kept saying that she wasn't ready. Finally one day she realized that her message was more important than her fear -- and that recognition unlocked the key to even more opportunities and ways to serve and make an impact. Now she is a Ted X speaker, comfortable on-camera for her own videos, and is regularly featured on TV and several top podcasts, and will soon be hosting her own podcast.
"We don't want to be doing things like training for a marathon right now." - Dr. Ann Shippy
On this show, Dr. Shippy talks about her journey as a thought leader and how much she has grown throughout her professional career. We talk about how we broke through her fear of being seen and her first Facebook Live video which got more than 12,000 views.
Experiencing the coronavirus first hand with her patients, Dr. Shippy also gives us actionable tips on how to we can all continue to stay healthy by exploring epigenetics, boosting our immune system through nutrients and food, and reducing stress. She reveals her power of the only story and how healing herself from several autoimmune disorders and toxic mold fueled her desire to help others to heal.
"I get to put all those puzzle pieces together and really figure out the most holistic way to help people get better." - Dr. Ann Shippy
Show Notes:"It was getting to a point where it was irresponsible for me not to share what I was learning." - Dr. Ann Shippy

"Many of my clients have been in either fight, flight, or freeze -- and wherever you are at, that is okay." - Angela Chee
How are we going to clear the space so that we can create a new vision?
Today I really want to focus on vision. Many of us are dealing with stress, overwhelm from world events, quarantine fatigue and more. I am not going to use the word normal as we begin to define what life looks like now that we're getting back to business, but we do need to accept that we are entering a new and different version of the future. What does that look like? First, we need to recognize where we're at.
"If you're not taking care of your own energy and your own space, there is no way to own your power and your voice and to put it out there in a bigger way." - Angela Chee
On today's show, I talk about the power of clearing, vision, and the way forward. Let's face it: all of us are just a bit exhausted right now. How do we move forward? What do you want to create? The first step is to honor where you're at.
I also talk about how to envision your future, ways to honor your grief, and the power of visualization.
"We are creating new patterns and new routines of what we want our lives to look like moving forward." - Angela Chee

"When we bring diversity to the table, we get to a better solution." - Tina Shah Paikeday
There is a lot of division in our world right now. How will we work, serve, and thrive as our current systems are being challenged?
We need diverse voices who own their voice and their power, and nobody knows that better than our guest this week, Tina Shah Paikeday.
As a senior member of the Leadership & Succession team at Russell Reynolds and Associates, Tina leads the firms' Global Diversity & Inclusion advisory services. Russell Reynolds and Associates is one of the top leadership advisory and search firms in the world. Tina's work includes recruiting Chief Diversity Officers and developing inclusive leaders and inclusive culture transformation.
"The work around inclusion and inclusive leadership has really shifted towards not only a focus on 'how can we empower the workforce', but then how can we use inclusive leadership for business advantage." - Tina Shah Paikeday
On today's show, Tina shares her own Power of The Only story. Tina grew up with two cultures shaping her identity. Navigating the dual worlds is what has helped her achieve success - but it has been a journey to discover that strength. We both talk about what we did to hide our identity in our early years. Tina shares the moment she began to uncover her story and realize the power in creating more inclusive environments.
Tina and I also talk about the top three areas of focus for companies right now to create more successful leaders, what you can do to be more inclusive, and why knowing your story and being able to share it is an important part of showing up as a leader.
"The last frontier with most of the executives leading in this area is development - development of women, of minorities, of people of different backgrounds - because we don't see them in the senior leadership positions at the same rate they're represented lower down in the organization." - Tina Shah Paikeday
Show Notes:"The work that we do at Russell Reynolds is really helping at the boardroom level given the current California legislation as well as the global legislation on the topic." - Tina Shah Paikeday
3 Pieces of Advice or Action Steps:"The power of the only to me is recognizing the fact that all of us are actually 'onlys' and that each of us walks our own unique paths no matter what our demographic background is." - Tina Shah Paikeday

"There's power in telling your story, knowing your story, and in seeing your story reflected. That's why representation matters." - Angela Chee
As we become more diverse and more divided, how can we move forward and thrive together?
In honor of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, I've been watching a documentary series on PBS called "Asian Americans". It's a groundbreaking 5-part series you can watch it online through the beginning of June.
One of the people featured in this series is my guest today, Nancy Wang Yoon. Author of Reel Inequality: Hollywood Actors and Racism, Nancy is a pop culture expert and sociologist. She has appeared on PBS, BBC World TV, Dr. Phil, Teen Vogue, New York Times, and Los Angeles Times, among others.
"Sharing all of the trials, the barriers, and the obstacles, and what we had to do to overcome - I think all that makes it that young people think that they can do it." - Nancy Wang Yuen
On this show, Nancy and I talk about how knowing our history and the power of stories can shape our future. We talk about the importance of media, and how representation impacts our identities and society as a whole.
In the last few months, there's also been a rise in anti-Asian racism and incidents so it's more important than ever to create a climate of unity to see our similarities and celebrate our differences. And it starts with us.
"I think it is never too young to talk about things like racism and sexism." - Nancy Wang Yuen
Show Notes:"I try not to rely too much on the approval of others." - Nancy Wang Yuen
3 Pieces of Advice or Action Steps:"I don't take myself too seriously, and yet I have goals that I want to achieve that I genuinely enjoy." - Nancy Wang Yuen
